Speaking as someone who came from California where I was born and where I lived right up until moving to TX, I think that most people here are not anti-Californian. More like anti turn-Texas-into-California. Personally I came here to become a Texan and integrate into the culture, not to turn Texas into California.

Just a side story to give an idea how bad it is at least in terms of gun control mindset: Prior to moving to TX, the last gun I shot was a .22 in Boy Scouts over 20 years ago. That means I never even touched a gun all my adult life until arriving in Texas. Not only that, but when I moved here I was shocked to find out one could simply walk into a gun shop, buy something like an AR-15 and then walk out with it the same day. All along I always thought that the 10 day waiting period was some sort of federal law and that there was no chance of anyone owning an "assault rifle" without going through some major hoops. That's when I realized just how deeply the anti-gun mindset runs in CA and I never want to go back, except to visit my family of course.

Obviously, it's not where you were born or where you came from that makes you a Texan, but what you do when you get there. Only a handful of defenders at the Alamo were actually born in Texas. I doubt anyone thinks that the rest didn't count because of where they came from.
