Re: Target shooting on public land

Unlike western states with hundreds of thousands of public land where one can legally target shoot for free, the only public land I’m aware of in Texas where you could do the same is in a small area in the LBJ Grasslands where you could only shoot shotguns, no rifle or pistol. That was a few years a...

Congrats. Interesting program. Maybe I can do this with my sons when they’re old enough.

Re: Pictures of your "Brown Guns"

Ruger Gunsite Scout (technically, dark gray, but it IS a wooden stock): http://www.annoyedman.com/images/favorites/RGS-suppressor-suppressor-left-outside.png What is that sling you have on that GSR? It’s a Galco Safari “Ching Sling” - the type of sling recommended by Col Cooper himself for scout ty...

Oops. Meant to say Garand-safe .308 ammo like the rest of us who search for Garand-safe .30-06 ammo.

Re: Pictures of your "Brown Guns"

If this is a dupe thread, I apologize. I searched but only found the black guns thread. This little beauty showed up today. Mailed my paperwork the CMP on Dec 1. CC was charged on Dec 5. It's a reward for achieving a shooting goal and a little Christmas bonus rolled in one. M1 Garand with a new bar...

Re: Corrected Vision Shooting

I would only try shooting without corrected vision if it were no more than 7 yards away at a pistol bay. My vision is really bad, so bad that I’d be considered “legally blind” uncorrected (thank God for contacts and eyeglasses!). At arms length, I can’t even see the front sight, and can only see a b...

Re: AR Scope Suggestions

Thanks, everyone. I've decided on the Nikon P223 per cmgee67's recommendation. I have a Nikon on my Rem 700CDL in .25-06, and really like the Nikon quality. The Vortex Strike Eagle looks really nice, but that's a bit more that I wanted to spend, and I would have had to get another mount for it. The...

Re: AR Scope Suggestions

What's your budget? I use a Leupold vx-2 on one of my AR's and a Redfield Revolution on another. I used both out to 300 but I'm currently trying to get better at 200 and they work great there. I got the Leupold for $200 and the revolution for $100 Which VX-2 do you have? The 1-4x20mm? I just ordere...

Re: I have been to my last gun show!

I went to my first Dallas Market Hall Gun Show this past Spring and was amazed at how much more stuff I saw compared to the other gun shows I’ve been. But to be fair, I had only been to a few smaller gun shows in my lifetime, so I never got to experience what it must’ve been like in their hey day. I...

Re: Lonestar Armory Run and Gun (Biathlon)

You can use a backpack, I use a camelbak to carry spare ammo to refill mags, but it makes it tough to get a new mag to finish a stage. The Waco event were 180 sec max so time digging in a backpack makes it difficult to complete the stage. Check out the photos from the 1st Waco event or the other ph...

Re: Lonestar Armory Run and Gun (Biathlon)

Last time I ran it all the stages were 180 sec, it is detailed in their course of fire on the website. The Lonestar has not defined it yet. The Waco TF, have generally topped off mags while running/moving between stages, sometimes during a wait. Sorry for all the dumb questions and thanks again, Am...

Re: Lonestar Armory Run and Gun (Biathlon)

Thanks again, Ammoboy2. Those photos make it look like a whole lot of fun. So was each stage at Waco 3 minute max? Or did it vary by stage? Do folks reload their mags while heading to the next stage?

Re: Lonestar Armory Run and Gun (Biathlon)

Thanks for the excellent advice, Ammoboy2. I guess I need to figure out how to determine range and practice shooting from different positions. I don't have much in the way of gear, either, and am wondering if I can get by with lugging mags, extra ammo and a couple water bottles in a backpack.

Lonestar Armory Run and Gun (Biathlon)

https://texasrunandgun.org/2018-lone-star-armory-series-opener-run-and-gun/ Anyone on here registered for this? It’s scheduled for Feb 24 and 25 near Cresson, southwest of Ft. Worth. Supposed to be 5 to 7 miles long, with some obstacles thrown in, but walking is allowed. I just signed up for it. It’...
