Re: Going to Austin. State capital question.

similar question. Last year when I visited the capital I went solo and used the express entrance, next time I will probably take my son. Does he get to follow me through the express lane or do I have to accompany him through the mere mortal entrance? You have to send him through the normal line. Bu...

Re: Charter Arms Explorer II, .22 caliber semi-automatic pistol with 10 shot magazine

Much like the ar7, it's minute of coyote at 30 yards - you can however get a rail section that clamps on the barrel for a small LER optic. with a little no name holosight mine was fairly consistent on POI after takedown and reassembly. I recently sold mine to a friend to combine with his ar7 and a s...

Re: Beer

I prefer my beer be distilled a few extra times, then left in a barrel for a few years. I am mildly allergic to hops, nothing serious just instant waterworks about the nose and eyes. Does not matter if I have 1 or 24 - same reaction, so my beer choices are a but limited. Bourbon choices on the other...

Re: Alien Gear Shape Shift Holster System

can't comment on the shape shift model, but alien gear just got another +1 from me. I called Monday about my cloak tuck for xd 45 tactical, the shell was starting to crack along the sight channel (3 years of hard use). I asked about ordering a replacement shell, they said lifetime warranty - where d...

Re: NRA Against Bump Fire Stocks?

In a discussion with an ffl today, an interesting point came up. Should the atf decide a bumpfire is a "machine gun" like a dias- and given the number in circulation, it would seem that the best solution would be to re-open the registry rolls. Since there are several manufacturers and mode...

Re: What knife do you carry?

Benchmade Adamas's auto as primary, then either an infidel or 3550 as "clean" knife. I just ordered an esee jungles and a kabar jarosz. the esse is a bit big for edc however the kabar may make it in the rotation. I prefer fixed blades but have been sporadic about carrying since my BM activ...

Re: Gallbladder and kidney removal.

Thank you all for the information so far . the kidney stones are from damage done to my kidneys as a child. best guess on the sudden arrival of gall stones is probably related to losing 40lbs in 6 months (unfortunately I've put some of it back on). rapid weight loss can cause gall issues. I won't se...

Gallbladder and kidney removal.

Looking for some advice or input from the btdt crowd. For background, certain childhood events left me with less than great kidneys. Had my first kidney stone at the age of 20. over the last 15 years it has been a recurring issue - I am currently working on passing #20 something 25-26 I think. while...

Re: PSR Long Range Shooting Match 9/16/2017

PRS is a lot of fun, it tests both the shooter and the equipment. while you will see a wide range of equipment, try not to fall into the "that guy" trap. Like 3 gun, benchrest, hot rods, etc.. just because that guy uses x and scored a few more points doesn't inherently mean it's the only t...

Re: .44 AutoMag being reborn - JD Jones

The two are close enough to not matter, although the automag can be a bit more fickle - Mine was a wildey, which has an adjustable gas system so it can tolerate a wider range of loading styles. Brass is simple, if you have the right tools. you cut rifle brass to length then turn the INSIDE to the co...

Re: .44 AutoMag being reborn - JD Jones

I've got a bucket of brass around here somewhere, fun guns for sure.

Making brass is interesting- it uses a 308 base case, I used to use all my random range pick ups just for novelty..308, 243, 260, 30-06, 270, etc - different headstamp for different loads

Re: Pros & cons comparing rifles w/ shotguns using slugs?

While a 223/5.56 will run laps around a slug on pure velocity - energy is what gets the job done. energy is a combination of mass and velocity (velocity squared times bullet weight in grains divided by 450,240 = ft lbs energy) For large animals such as bears, it takes significant mass to penetrate h...
