Re: K31 Swiss Rifle

Might be mistaken, but I'd double check - that sure does look a whole lot more like the k11 (K1911). Unfortunately, being sporterized, can't tell if its an original 96\11 or the slightly later K11 carbine. The k31 is a significant redesign of the 11. Notably the bolt locking lugs were relocated and ...

Re: Opinion on gunsmith situation

Finally resolved. After some additional back and forth, and discussion on the value of social media - it was mutually agreed that it was sub par work. Since their was a confidence issue in the original gunsmith trying again on an OEM slide, he instead ordered a DV8 raptor slide with the vortex cut a...

Re: AG Opinion Request RQ-0338-KP County Investigator

Interesting, I'll have to get deeper into this. I am not a peace officer (in Texas, other states it's fuzzy and leosa says shmaybe) but I carry in both my municipal and JP courts - with a written authorization from the judge. He has a copy, I have a copy and my office has a copy. My secretary has a ...

Re: Opinion on gunsmith situation

I am going to reach out to the gunsmith, not the business owner 'yet', and discuss using an appropriate mounting plate - drilled and tapped in a non critical location, with the appropriate fasteners. Along with replacing the extractor of course. The alternative is either an OEM slide sent to a reput...

Re: Opinion on gunsmith situation

Yes, removing the loaded chamber indicator was planned - no way to keep it and maintain the integrity of the rear sight dovetail. Particularly since I have switched to the oddball advantage tactical sights. Paid cash, as is my usual practice. The rough milling, the slight oversize front to back, bug...

Email me pictures if you’d like and I’ll post them for you. I’m sure others would like to see the mess you’re describing as well. Thank you for the offer. Pics sent. The local aspect was good, especially since the owner is a fellow volunteer firefighter as well (different department thankfully) - t...

Opinion on gunsmith situation

This may come back to bite me, given the extensive reach of this forum, but I could use an outside opinion. I'm a fairly decent machinist and occasional hack gunsmith. I do not currently have a milling machine, so I decided to send my pistol slide to an 'expert' to mill and tap for direct mounting a...

Re: Reloading issue 223 RCBS dies

Your seating die does not match the ogive of the bullet you are seating. To confirm this take a very small, half pea-sized, ball of tinfoil and place it in your seating die. After you seay the first bullet, the foil will conform to the shape of the bullet you are currently using. This will change wi...

Re: End of NRA Credit Card

Same here. The new penfed card went through the shredder quite well. I only kept the NRA card out of principle, making occasional midway purchases. There are far better cards out there, and as someone who detests using cards in general it just didn't seem to make sense to keep it. It will be interes...

Re: RDS v. Iron Sights: Not just for old blind guys

Anyone have a recommendation for a Smith to mill an XD slide? I've been debating a carry optic for quite a while, and synchronicity being what it is - this thread popped up and shortly thereafter I ended up with a vortex venom NIB in a trade I wasn't anticipating. I'd rather not deal with someone ou...

Re: TX: Do not sell a gun to a man with a man bun

Caveat, there is a gentleman who lives just outside college station who I would sell to again in a heartbeat.. his man bun, along with his 400ish pound physique and bad habit of wearing towels in public are cultural. His exceptional collection of miniature firearms, mostly Berettas and colts in .22 ...
