Re: Residency requirement - 411.172 or 411.173?
First of all: Welcome to Texas! :txflag: JALLEN brings up a good point. If you change your DL or address during this process, it's a real pain. Fortunately, having your Texas DL helps make this easier... Since you haven't resided in Texas for at least 6 months, you fall under the GC §411.173 "N...

Re: How to Talk to Your Kids about Gun Safety
I tell this very true story in all my CHL/LTC classes. It's long. I've never written it down before. The tl/dr is: Teaching kids gun safety saves lives. My sister-in-law was seriously anti-gun (having lived and grown up in some very urban areas) and was visiting us for the evening with her 10 year-o...

Re: DAO and Safety On for LTC Test?
I can find are no DPS requirements, AG opinions, or published guidelines regarding DAO on revolvers or "safeties on" during the proficiency test. The proficiency requirements are published under the Admin Code at Title 37/Part1/Chapter 6/Subchapter B/Rule §6.11 That said, demonstrating saf...

Re: Is Verbal Notice Monitored?
I'd be very careful with that assumption. Verbal notice is verbal notice. Consider it a 30.06/07 sign just for you . If you were notified with some time-limit imposed, that would be part of the notice you were given. Did the proprietor say "You can't carry a gun in here" ...or did he say &...

Re: How to Handle Student's Failed Proficient Test
You're allowed three tries to pass both the written test and the proficiency test, per the Administrative code. In the past (almost) ten years, I've had one student whose gun broke (parts failure), and had to borrow a gun and re-qualify. He stopped and shot the second go-around (we usually go in gro...

Re: Military approval of synthetic motor oil as expedient weapons lube??
Not synthetic, but according to the Field Manual for the U.S. Rifle, Caliber .30, M1 (Garand) FM 23-5, Chapter 5 (Maintenance), section 21 "Cleaning, Materials, Lubricants and Equipment", b.3: "OS 10 engine oil may be used as a field expedient under combat conditions when the oils pre...

Re: Alien Gear Cloak Tuck: suggestions on breaking in?
I'm at about week 3 wearing an Alien Gear 3.0 w/a Glock 19, and it's super comfortable. Definitely "molds" a bit to your waist after a few days. I've adjusted the cant slightly more forward, and I've got the gun at about 4:30-5:00. I've also had to tighten down the clips after a week, and ...

Re: Handgun in car, no permit, pulled over by police
Specifically to this point: I very much appreciate your reply,, but if I go here, to MOTORISTS PROTECTION ACT http://healylaw.com/SPH_Jan-Feb_2012_MPA.pdf it specifically says ALSO UCW is usually a charge that a motorist gets charged with "accessibility" to a firearm while in your car. Ver...

Re: Looking for advice on troublesome primer strike
No worries. That's normal, in my experience.
The AR-15 has a light "floating" firing pin that will contact the primer when chambering a round.
If it troubles you, google "ar-15 firing pin inertia dimple" to see more images that look exactly like yours.

Re: 300 Blackout vs 5.56 NATO
I think that, if you already have a 5.56 AR-15, the 300 Blackout is an interesting way to send a heavy 30cal bullet downrange. Pros: The uppers aren't too pricey, it's a proven pig-stopper, and you can shoot the heavy rounds suppressed. I have an adjustable gas block on mine, and it helped to tune m...

Re: Arrested in 1999
This issue should not immediately disqualify you from getting a CHL. If I'm wrong, I'm sure someone will correct me :bigear: Here's why: 1. You had an order of deferred adjudication back in 1999 2. You were discharged from that order in July of 2000 3. Section 411.1711 recognizes your exemption from...
