Re: What's Your Preferred Grain in 9mm for range and s.d.?

I had been using 115 for range (I carry a .45), as that is easiest to get. However, I recently did a side-by-side test of 115 vs 124 vs 147 (same brand), to see if the difference in accuracy was noticeable. It was, and it was dramatic. That would likely vary with the gun, length of barrel, and gun w...

Re: Pulled over for speeding - you won't believe what happened next!

These are good guys, with a tough job. If you are polite and respectful, they will be the same. You might still get that ticket, but OTOH, they tend to be supportive of the LTC, and realize that having people out in the field that support LE might be a good deal for them sometime.

Re: CHL friendly theaters in Fort Worth?

Cinemark used to post non-conforming signs, but about a year ago they switched to 30.07. The ones in Allen and McKinney are so posted, as well as Cinemarks mentioned in this thread, so I imagine that is a corporate decision. They don't care if you bring a gun, they just don't want their customers to...

Re: The prodigal returns home

The Shield .45 is a great gun. Very concealable, and much easier to handle than I thought it would be. I can do double-taps easily with it. The 9mm is a capable round, but it's hard to dispute the "shock-and-awe" of the .45 round, even from a shorter barrel.

Re: Can't bring ammo into California

The goal is that almost everyone can have a gun, but no one can have ammo. Stalin would be proud.

I predict a growing cottage industry in ammo smuggling.

Re: Gun Buster Signs

"Gun-buster" refers to the gun in a circle, the intl symbol for no guns. By itself, it has no legal status in Texas. "No guns", "no weapons", "no firearms", etc. are all non-conforming signs, and have no force of law in Texas, including with knives. If you hav...

Re: Considering a Shield 9mm

If you carry the Shield 9mm, or any 9mm approved for it, don't overlook the option of +P ammo. It is not hard to shoot, but definitely hits harder. Ballistic gel testing shows that 9mm +P scores very close to .40 cal, with easier handling.

Re: Considering a Shield 9mm

As an instructor, I either own or shoot a lot of guns. I think the Shield is an ideal compromise between concealability and shootability. It is easy to conceal, tall enough to allow a full grip (for most people), and long enough (sight radius) to be very accurate. The trigger is not as good as a CZ,...

Let us not forget that "hate" speech IS protected by the 1st Amendment. Much conservative speech is already labelled by the Liberals/Communists as hate speech.

Re: Carry in a courtroom

That was my understanding as well. Collin County still has a lot of country personality, and is sometimes informal on some things. I wonder if this is just an "understanding" among county employees?

Carry in a courtroom

It has always been my understanding that carry was always disallowed in a courtroom or the premises of a court. I had an LTC student this week who works for the county (Roads and Bridges), and he said that he had been told at work that, after getting a license, he could carry in the courthouse or co...

Re: Hornady Critical Defense 9mm Ammo

A heavier bullet hits harder, but with a slight increase in recoil. POI will also sometimes shift based on bullet weight. That can be a good way to fine-tune your set-up, presuming accuracy itself is not tbe issue.

Because the training and proficiency requirements are different. If they just sell you a license, you won't know the details of Texas handgun laws.

Carry: S&W Shield .45. Small but stout.

Range: CZ 75B 9mm. Glock fans should avoid these; it will be too depressing.
