Re: Minimum Caliber for Handgun Proficiency Exam

I was never intending to get that far out with my comment. I don't know anyone who carries a pistol ar as anything other than a truck gun. At the same time the gun I qualified with I never had any intention of carrying. Fast forward a few years and I actually do carry it some of the time. I still wo...

Re: Carry style

I mostly pocket carry my LCP, when I want more capacity I carry OWB in SOB holster at about 430.

Re: Gun safe thoughts/advice

Since we are sharing, my biggest challenge with a safe is figuring out how to mount one in a newer house with a post tension slab. I don't want to void my warranty or break a cable. An appropriate mounting solution is going to either look weird or get very expensive. Epoxy is an option but quite pe...

Re: Gun safe thoughts/advice

I have a 10 gun(no way will it hold 10 long arms) stack on that was a Christmas present a few years ago. It's adequate for anti theft, I also have a small keyes safe beside the bed for edc, at night it just lays on the nightstand in the open though. I also keep an old homemade gun rack hanging above...

Re: Finally, I am a new truck owner

Nice and awd for 40k isn't bad, my base xlt f150 4x4 with no extras except the 4x4 and a 3.5 ecoboost listed for 42500. Mine has almost no driver aids, cloth interior, barely a step up from a work truck.

Re: Us Poor Lefties

I'm not left handed, but my normal carry is in my back pocket so no go while driving. As stated above first option is to use the car itself to get out of the situation all together. I also keep a full size 40 in a pocket sewn to my seat cover on the front of the seat that is very easy to get to. Als...

Re: Minimum Caliber for Handgun Proficiency Exam

Not that I would expect it to happen often, but since there is no caliber restriction, could one use an AR pistol with a brace, and then since the atf has decided it's ok, shoulder it? I would allow it. But remember, you are not allowed to use optics, red dots, lasers, etc. Only open sights. Yeah I...

Re: Ruger LCP Loaded Carry

If it's the old style LCP and not the new LCP 2 the trigger pull is so heavy you don't have to worry about it. All the LCP models are double action only so they are decocked as much as say a Beretta 92 with the hammer down. I carry mine almost every day with the full 6+1 load in my back pocket in a ...

Re: How do you train at the range?

I saw a drill for trigger control that I plan on trying next time I go shooting, take 1 shot in a clean are of a target with both hands then take 1 shot with strong and 1 with your off hands. The goal being to have the 3 shots touching to make a cloverleaf on the target. Another good practice drill ...

Re: Length of time for the chambered round

Finally shot up my carry ammo today just for the heck of it, had the same round chambered for probably 8 or more months due to lack of time to shoot, and when I do the 380 is way down the list of what I want to shoot. The rounds themselves have been carried for 3 years, sometimes in the primary mag ...

Re: 10mm pistol hunting

I have seen on multiple occasions hard cast and FMJ bullets fired from handguns outpenetrate jacketed soft points fired from rifles. http://www.handloads.com/misc/linebaugh.penetration.tests.asp In this one link if you look at the cartridges detailed in the table, there are many many handgun cartri...

Re: 10mm pistol hunting

The Hornady 180 Grain XTP, factory or handloaded, is a stomper in the 10mm. A 180 XTP at around 1200 fps should exit any Whitetail, lots of gel tests on YouTube. If more penetration is needed, use coated hard cast 200s or 220s. The coated hard cast minimize leading with polygonal rifling and compen...

Re: Revolver vs semiauto effective barrel lengths

I don't have the necessary guns to test it but a s&w governor that was loaded with 45 acp could be tested against another 45 with roughly the same length barrel through a crono, same would go for a 9mm revolver vs a semi.

Let us know how this handles. I have an old mule kicker 12g Remington Sportsman that is no fun. All m...
