Chas.

Charles, I emailed TSRA late yesterday and found a nice response from Ms. Tripp this morning.

When I get back to my office I'll pm you.

I should add she was most respectful of the eminent Mr. Cotton's efforts.

Re: HB 560 - Holy Grail?

I emailed TSRA about this, and got a nice reply. HB560 is old legislation that has never gotten any support. My wild guess is that legislators must look at HB560 as going too far, and CC is just eliminating government prejudice against the unlicensed. My wild guess. TSRA didn't say that, I'm just tr...

Re: The Second protects the First.

The New York Times quotes Holger Münch, president of the Federal Criminal Police Office, as stating, “our free society must not allow a climate of fear, threat, criminal violence, and violence either on the street or on the internet.” Which puts the power to criminalize in the hands of who, exactly...

Re: Deltapoint Pro on 1911

Interesting thoughts about stability and presentation. I've been working on a drill that may well sound quite dumb, but I think I'm getting some good out of it with my old-timey iron sights. For the past year or so I've been working to acquire the front sight quicker. Every time I disarm I draw as i...

Re: NRA Doesn't Allow 1911's at New Classes

As with any new design, there are uncertainties that may reveal themselves over time. I imagine once the 1911 has been in circulation long enough to prove its merit, the NRA will be happy with them. Personally, I think the 1911 design has a lot of promise, even if it isn't a tried-and-true striker g...

Re: Oakland recruiting ex-cons to oversee cops

What's the rationale for recruiting ex-cons? It really makes a lot of sense to me. I believe those Hair Club ads that talk about the CEO being the best customer make a truly valid point. Serial felons are the police department's best customers, so it's just logical... Oh, wait, former inmates in ch...

Re: Pass through shots/ liability

Sometimes I wonder about marketing ideas. Names shouldn't matter, but I still wonder. A jury shouldn't care whether a manufacturer names a type of ammo "Humble Petition to Kindly RSVP Your Plans to Leave Me in Peace" or "Flesh Rending Zombie Death." But what if Shannon Watts is t...

Gun sign, disappointing

As my wife and I were taking in the transition between red dirt East Texas and the sandy plains leading west to the Hill Country, we chanced to stop for fuel and vittles in a little Central Texas town near I45. We were rather surprised by a gun sign we saw. Right there in the window, just to the lef...

Re: Just became a resident, non-resident CHL?

I was looking into getting a CHL so I can carry concealed while hiking and fishing (not going to rule out urban carry but it's not my main concern.) Heck, why make a distinction between hiking around in the city and out in the woods? Just carry, it puts a spring in the step! And welcome to America....

Re: Oakland recruiting ex-cons to oversee cops

California cops have to enforce unconstitutional laws and now they have to listen to jailbirds. My heart goes out to them, those who see the true nature of California's counterproductive gun policies, anyway. On the other hand, do you have to be a California resident to apply? I'm not proud of it, b...

Well, dang, missed all the fun. Hope it happens again. At least I know where it is. Darn gps took me to the shopping center just west of Rudy's. But it was a nice ride here. I scrambled the Gold Wing as soon as I saw this thread, about 7:30 this morning. Took the back road out of Tehuacana, through ...

Re: Interesting Psychology: Open Carry & The Weapons Effect

Ok, here's the proof of bad science. Note this: In one field experiment,[2] a confederate driving a pickup truck purposely remained stalled at a traffic light for 12 seconds to see whether the motorists trapped behind him would honk their horns (the measure of aggression). The truck contained eithe...
