Re: Austin based Yeti quits doing business with NRA

Hmmm... Maybe I should hold off mailing the letter I just wrote. Gentlemen, I’d like to ask you to consider some common-sense restrictions on advertising and product design. For instance, what citizen really needs 259 cans of ice-cold beer? According to the National Institute on Alcohol Abuse and Al...

Re: Is this video real?

Interesting thought - any striker fired pistol wiggles the sear engagement if there is any play in the slide rails. most have a striker safety that doesnt engage unless the trigger is pulled. this particular model of gun didn't which is why i imagine it kept going off like that. It's still somethin...

Re: Prayers for Barbara Bush

Barbara Bush had a lot of graciousness and dignity.

I suspect the whole family, whatever you think of their politics, are pretty friendly in person. Somewhere I've got pictures of Laura Bush holding my youngest son in her lap at the HIllsboro Public Library, where she was promoting child literacy.

Re: Motorcyclist Crashes and shoots self

my first question was why was he carrying a .22? my 2nd question was why holster did he have. my 3rd question is why do people ride motorcycles? my cousin almost lost her life less than a month ago. crushed her ankle. road rash all over her arm and leg. she bit a hole thru her tongue. the fact that...

Re: Secession?

A very contentious topic and one that we should probably tread lightly around. You rang? :biggrinjester: I'm all for immediate secession until I think about renouncing my American citizenship. Then I get a lot more reserved about the idea. The duty to throw off the bonds of tyranny is absolute, but...

Re: If the 2nd Amendment is repealed poll

Like our Founders, I'll wait for a long train of usurpations and abuses before I advocate violence, and long before I reach that point I will have worked to find cracks in the tyrant's defenses, and sought ways to bring down the unworthy. My advice, practice with your weapons. That means your word p...

Re: Employers that allow their employees to carry

I'm old and cranky with a bad attitude. My take is that unless the employer officially gives notice either during the hiring interview or employee handbook/materials provided when hired that carrying is prohibited it is perfectly allowable to carry concealed at work. Nobody is going to know anyway ...

Re: Fed up with Austin

Native Austinite here, born and raised there. Left at about age 35. The Austin I grew up in was really nice. My family associated with intellectual people who weren't crazy, and I think that's where I got my lifelong taste for thoughtful interaction. Unfortunately, when I go back there are only bits...

Re: Land survey to GPS coordinates

Technically possible? It’s just simple trig. You can use polar to rectangular functions in a calculator without knowing any trigonometry, in fact. In high school, I was taught I had to know about 40 rules about the relationships between sides and angles in right triangles. Then I learned there’s rea...

Friendly interaction with the local PD

I hesitate to say which PD was nice to me, because in these strange and wicked times somebody might make a fuss. On my evening walkabout, I found a set of car keys in the road, very new-looking. Probably a pickup, from the little round key on the ring that could be a toolbox key. There was also what...

Re: Parkland survivor David Hogg

Anyone else see a ton of similarities between this prepubescent twit and hitler? the way he speaks. his hand movements. i'd say he's demon possessed. The problem is we saw the speech with the English voice-over. You don't really get the flavor of his rhetoric until you hear it in the original. http...

Re: Giffords' involvement in student marches exposed

There is a solution to the looming loss of gun rights, but it's going to be a new kind of fight. When anti-gunners can pack Washington with a march so long it extends over the horizon, we've got a problem. The superstar students are, in my wild guesses, feeding off frustration with being told what t...

Re: Parkland survivor David Hogg

If gun owners are not to have a voice, why should an equally large class whose numbers include school shooters have a voice? I speak facetiously, of course, but aren't the preponderance of school shootings carried out by either students or young adults? And we salute them for cleaning up our mess? C...
