Re: California Lege Considering Traffic Fine Based On Income

Will this be based on earned income (so most people will need only show a W-2) or will it include investment income? In the latter case, you'll need to show your entire federal income-tax return just to find out the amount of your traffic fine. Privacy, schmivacy.

Re: IN: Police May Not Detain Armed Hoosiers to Check for Handgun License

In the reported case I am ambivalent about the result because we ended up with a felon with a gun getting a free pass. The reality is that the limits of our freedoms are determined by circumstances in which criminals get off. Had the gun carrier not been a felon, the matter never would have gone to...

I don't know, but it would be extremely foolish politically to ban concealed or open carry. Gun controllers would have a heck of a field day with that.

Re: ACLU Issues Texas ‘Travel Advisory’

The ACLU exists solely to protect the Bill of Rights (yes, that includes the 2nd Amendment) That may once have been true, setting aside the Second Amendment (I'm skeptical they ever supported that). But like so many institutions in our society, the ACLU has been corrupted by the Left. Now it's just...

Re: Marine La Pen My Favorite French Candidate!

Here's a conservative commentator's take on Le Pen: "The Front National is not a standard party, and American conservatives should not be unhappy to see it lose. Its origins are in colonial revanchistes; until recently it was openly illiberal and anti-Semitic, and many of its adherents still ar...

Re: Tap, Rack, Bang or Drop, Replace, Rack, Bang?

I say that "Tap, Rack, Bang" is the proper procedure on a two way range (i.e. firefight). The object of the procedure is to get you back into the fight ASAP. If the weapon does not fire at that point, it is time to take cover and clear the stoppage. On a nice sunny afternoon at the local ...

Re: Marine La Pen My Favorite French Candidate!

I understand the inclination to wish Le Pen well. I feel it myself. But I caution myself that European politics is not the same as American, and she may embody some of the awful things that the Left likes to attribute to the American right. Tom Wolfe observed that the dark night of fascism is foreve...

That is the common sense answer and, to my mind, obviously correct. License holders would do well not to play games with the intricacies of the signs. We should act in good faith.

Really? Why would he have any interest making any particular point about climate change? Because he's a human being. He has a political point of view, and it colors the positions he takes. That may not be different from the rest of us, but it's a reason to be skeptical of most things. As for the si...

Re: What is status Restoration of Gun Rights in Austin?

So why so many Republicans voted for (Strauss) in the first place? I live in his district and would love to see him lose the primary, but he comes from a long-time prominent political family with loads of connections and money. He is well entrenched in the establishment and is unlikely to lose. Alas.

Of course, the "who" choosing the speaker were the Democrats plus enough Republicans to put him over 50%. Not all Republicans are to blame.

Re: Home defense: birdshot

One particularly unfruitful day of dove hunting, I took a shot at a rabbit with dove shot. I was glad I aimed at the head, because there would have been no rabbit otherwise. As it was, the head was gone. I think that translates into a nasty hole in somebody. The severity of the wound depends on how ...

Re: And you wonder why Chicago has a high crime rate

Chicago is bad, without a doubt, but we in Texas have our own history. When I was young, our state treasurer's chief qualification was his name: Jesse James. And then there was the first woman governor (a title Ann Richards wrongly claimed): Ma Ferguson. http://www.humanitiestexas.org/programs/tx-or...
