Re: Cities improperly posting 30.06 signs?

I saw this sign posted at the entrance to the Travis County Medical Examiner's office. It's the sign Travis County posts at the entrance of courthouses. Would the medical examiner's office be considered "offices utilized by the court," per PC Sec. 46.03(a)(3)? If so, which court? It seems ...

Re: Texas Senate District 5

Dr. Schwertner declared he did NOT support campus carry but affirmed his support of the Second Amendment. If that's true, it's quite a flip-flop. I met with Dr. Schwertner in November of 2010, shortly after his election to the Texas House, and he assured me that he would support campus carry. Every...

Re: Guns on campus bill faces another hurdle

Even with no sponsor for the campus carry bill this session? I assume you understand that "this session" doesn't start for ten and a half months and that the 2011 House and Senate bills had a combined 103 authors, joint authors, and coauthors, right? Though there may be some question as t...

Re: UA President rejects guns on campus

I tend to more or less stay out of the campus carry debate these days; however, I did want to add my two cents regarding the debate over the numbers cited in the recent CATO study. David Burnett, one of the coauthors of the CATO study, has dedicated as much time and energy to promoting campus carry ...

Re: California has campus carry?

There are two reasons that California has campus carry. 1. It is next to impossible to get a license depending on the county you're in so I just doesn't really come up 2. The issuing department can place its own restrictions on where and when you can carry such as only during work or no schools Che...

Re: What is taking the Senate Committee so long?

What happened : Somebody screwed up and neglected to list the bill as pending on the agenda for today's meeting. What the committee wants to do about it : Take it up at the next meeting, which isn't until next Tuesday. What we want them to do about it : Schedule a committee vote for sometime this w...

Re: You Can Help Campus Carry With Your Phone

The Senate Committee on Criminal Justice is scheduled to meet tomorrow afternoon. (03/29 @ 1:30 PM or upon adjournment) SB 354 is not on the agenda for tomorrow. However, it was left pending a week ago. Does that mean they could vote tomorrow to report it favorably out of committee? Or must they pe...

Re: Calendars HB 750

And what is 'tagging', exactly? A member of the Calendars committee can tag a bill, sending it to the bottom of the list of bills to be considered. As I understand it (Charles or someone with more experience with the Texas Legislature can correct me if I'm wrong), the official House rules say that ...

Re: Calendars HB 750

I'm confused by the rules on committee work... I thought the rules about open meetings, public records, etc prevented that sort of thing from happening? Yet apparently portions of the legislative process continue to be conducted behind closed doors :confused5 As I understand it, the committee to wh...

Re: Calendars HB 750

Just got a TLO alert that the Calendars Committee is meeting to set a calendar today upon adjournment of the House. Can anyone follow to see if it's on the internet feed, and if so, if they mention HB 750 on the calendar? Somebody can correct me if I'm wrong, but I'm pretty sure the Calendars meeti...

Re: SB 354 Follow up

Yeah I made the post because I realized that as the bill stands, I am going to have to walk and not ride the shuttle buses. I'm sure that the clause was specifically to keep people from carrying to school events in a charter bus, and what not, but it will also end up excluding people who use school...

Re: John Woods still at it

Nice job, for what you got out before you were rudely interrupted. People got longer than you did to speak. That was uncalled for. IMO, FWIW, You should have just stuck with her testimony, and a her giving you permission to say this as a prologue. I think they're more interested in what happened w/...
