Re: John Woods still at it

Here in Las Vegas Nevada paper Just Google Amanda Collins. W Scott Lewis was trying to tell about her when they cut him off at the Senate hearing on SB 354. The really sad thing is that I had Mrs. Collins permission to share her story with the committee, and I got cut off before I could tell it. Fo...

Re: SB 354 question

Ok I am a student at UT San Antonio. My question is, that if this bill is signed into law, i noticed a stipulation stating that university transportation is a prohibited place for carry. My problem is that I have to park my car roughly 1 mile from the school and they provide a shuttle bus. Will thi...

Re: Link to Today's hearing video stream SB 354

John Woods has a CHL? How? Who gave it to him? Does he actually carry? If he had come to my class seeking a license I would've told him "no" - you don't meet the mental health requirements to take my class :biggrinjester: I'm fairly certain he isn't carrying. I didn't notice it this week ...

Re: Link to Today's hearing video stream SB 354

5:11 what is her friggen point.. health care?... really? free speech zones. aaaaannnnnnnd 3 minutes later she's still talking.. anyone else see this as one sided? It's not Whitmire's fault. As far as the time goes, he's being somewhat lenient on both sides (which is why I decided to give my full te...

Re: With HB750 or SB354...30.06 required to opt out?

It looks like the law (46.03) would be changed to remove the statutory prohibition for CHL (but not long guns) so it wouldn't be a crime to carry concealed with a CHL unless they give notice according to 30.06, no different from any other private business. This is my read on it also. I am simply wo...

Re: Senate Committee Hearing on SB 354

Do we have any idea when they'll take testimony on SB 354? It appears it's one of ten bills to be discussed at the Senate Criminal Justice committee's public hearing, and the only bill related to CHL laws. That's a stark contrast to the HB 750 hearing last week, where four of the five bills address...

Re: Public hearing scheduled for SB 354

Whitmire, the committee chairman, has said that he supports the bill, but he's not a coauthor. Ellis is firmly opposed. Huffman and Hinojosa both supported last year but are undecided this time around. It doesn't matter that HB 750 passed the house committee; we still have to get past the Senate com...

Re: Join us at the Capital Wednesday to Support HB 750!!!

Of the four campus carry bills, there are AFAICT only minor differences; 86 applies to all higher ed (public and private), 750 leaves the decision up to the private schools but requires public schools to allow campus carry, 1167 applies to public junior colleges and public technical institutes only...

Re: Join us at the Capital Wednesday to Support HB 750!!!

It's been over 50 years since I was there, I seem to remember staying at a motel down the street, seems like it was a dirt road, and a covered wagon ... but seriously, can anyone suggest parking locations/cheap motels , or ? I probably can't make it, but I might get a wild hair and show up if I don...

Re: Guide to testifying before the Texas Legislature

Good info on "Position cards" and written Testimony here for those who can't stay all day. Unless you have a particularly compelling/unique story, written testimony and position cards are the way to go. It rubs the legislators the wrong way when too many people show up and say exactly the...

That's pretty much all most student governments due. They're kind of useless.
