Re: Pros & cons comparing rifles w/ shotguns using slugs?

I would especially question the use of #1 Buckshot, or even 00. Just not enough weight there to get sufficient penetration on a big, thick bear.

Re: Year End Instructor Recertification?

Class is 4 hours total.

As long as initial NRA Pistol Cert is still active, you should still be good.

Yes, another instructor needs to qualify you with both semi and revolver.

No big rush on any of it for now - except getting scheduled into one of those 1/2 day classes.

Re: Concealable 9mm with an easy to rack slide

Quote: Or even a 9mm snubbie? Ruger LCR 9mm. Had one for a while but sold it at a loss. And told the buyer why. Due to light weight, great trigger and good 9mm velocity, I thought it was the perfect 5-holer. But bullet in the 5'th cartridge in chamber waaaaaaay too often jumped the crimp, sometimes ...

Re: Searching for a new home base.

The Town of Copper Canyon (near our private range) consists of some areas you might want to consider. It is sandwiched between Highland Village and Lantana, now comprised of over 10,000 people in cookie cutter houses on those postage stamp lots. And yes, you would be dreaming on the drive time.

Re: Searching for a new home base.

" I prefer a small town feel: grass, trees, and lot sizes larger than postage stamps. Maximum commute to Irving or Dallas 45 minutes with traffic. " That's just what we wanted too - and found it. In in Flower Mound. But that was well over 30 years ago. Such is a pretty tall order these day...

Re: Latest Instructor Info?

It's going to take DPS a while to digest the changes and get their lesson plan put together. I'd suspect sometime in July may be the earliest they will email everyone an opportunity to sign up for one-day classes. From other threads here, it looks like they will not be doing their traveling salvatio...

Re: Felon Shoots Cop In Face With Shotgun. Annoyed Cop Fires Back.

I had an older dove hunter in a hunter ed class around 10 years ago who had taken a hit from high brass 6s at 90 yards. One pellet went smooth through the web of one ear. 4 more pellets buried so deep in his neck and face that his wife, over a 2 1/2 day period, was unable to remove them with tweezer...

Re: Felon Shoots Cop In Face With Shotgun. Annoyed Cop Fires Back.

If "not injured", I have a hard time believing the felon even hit the cop.

At just 50 feet (about 17 yards) the pattern was likely less than 2 feet. And even birdshot on bare skin would certainly cause SOME injury.

With that said, birdshot IS for BIRDS.

Re: Call-To-Action: HB421 & HB659

' Got voice mail and had to leave a message on 6 out of 9 just after 4:00 p.m. on this fine Friday. Gal in Rep. Burns office said she thinks the vote is actually next Tuesday morning. Gal in Rep. Metcalf's office was quite familiar with 421 and said they are much in support of after similar bill sta...
