Re: A disappointing State Fair episode 10-1-09

C-dub wrote:Good evening everyone. I received replies from two council members offices.
Elsa Cantu
Executive Assistant

Ms. Cantu erroneously referred me to pre-2007 laws that stated licensees could not carry on the premises of an amusement park. I politely responded back to her that that law had changed in 2007 to require amusement parks to post appropriate 30.06 signs and that the Texas State Fair did not meet the requirements of an amusement park by not being open more than 120 days in a calendar year. I also pointed out that since Fair Park was owned by the City of Dallas it could not legally be posted with 30.06 signs anyway. I gave her the references to the penal code so she could check herself.

Steve Salazar's office forwarded my question to Council Member Davis' office, since Fair Park is in her district. It was from his forward to her office that I received this carbon copy to Mr. Richard Perez.
Mr. Perez,

Would you please initiate an investigation regarding the email below and respond to our office with the results via interoffice memorandum or email.

Yolanda Davis
Executive Assistant to
The Honorable Carolyn R. Davis
City of Dallas ~ District 7
All in all I think these two responses are more than I expected. I'm glad to see that others are not having as much trouble as Gemini did.
My stomach just turned. It really concerns me that Ms Cantu did not bother to research her answer before coming to the defense of the State Fair. My interpretation of that action is that she is pro gun control...anti CHL and reaching for an excuse to allow this harassment to continue. I get frustrated by people, politicians or not, who seem to have issues with law abiding citizens exercising their RKBA.

It is a ploy that works if you want it to and cannot be legally challenged. If it isn't illegal, it is legal.

1. I never received a reply or call back from Rep Joe drivers office.
2. The DPS attorney has never called / per Rep Allan Vaught's office.
3. My attorney has never received a call back from State Fair management.
4. Some are now entering the Fair without the info hassle, still no continuity from gate to gate.
5. Mark Davis was reported to have a show this morning on this topic. I'm tuned in now.

The next few days could be interesting.

Maybe the rule was not "Official" policy. If it was, it seems like the hassle would be across the board at every gate for all CHL's.
The Fair management office confirmed it was "Official Policy" when I called them. It seems there is no continuity from gate to gate,
I agree with that. But, it shouldn't be allowed at any gate.
I agree 100%, it should not be going on at any gate. But it is odd that the rule is being implemented randomly. Maybe it isn't so odd, now that I think about it. It may simply be that the guards who aren't asking for this info are simply not doing what they were told. Maybe laziness...maybe they just couldn't care less...LOL.

Re: A disappointing State Fair episode 10-1-09

It is beginning to sound a little bit like this may be more of an individual persons procedure than actual company policy. I wonder who the person is that instituted the procedures to be followed? The true powers in charge may know little to nothing about what is happening on the front lines. Just a thought I had.

It is most likely a new person in charge of the area that makes decisions on this issue.

Ah, but they cannot post 30.06.

The fairgrounds is gov't owned, even if it is leased out to a private company for 24 days a year. Government owned property is an exception to 30.06.
And this is the very situation that I am a proponent of making a ruckus. I agree though that in situations with improperly posted signs one should just shut up and do as the law requires...which is nothing.

I fear some of our fellow CHL'ers confuse the two VERY different situations.

Re: A disappointing State Fair episode 10-1-09

That just flat out ticks me off. :mad5 :mad5 :mad5 Surely something can be done about this. How does any of this work within the law? My suspicion is some little Nazi is in charge somewhere along the chain and they don't like CHL's so they are acting like fools to them.
