Re: SB 1408 - Call to Action ***Need your help***

I agree with many of the points in this thread. However it looks like HB435 will pass (which creates the "elitist" carve outs 24/7 for volunteers) and unfortunately the much better and more narrowly tailored bill that included paid responders but only applied to those on duty will die in C...

Re: SB 1408 - Call to Action ***Need your help***

Also, please makes calls through the weekend to get this out of Calendars. The legislature is not in recess for the weekend as many think.

Re: SB 1408 - Call to Action ***Need your help***

HB435 only applies to volunteers and gives them privileges at all times, I am thankful for that legislation as well and it will apply to me as I volunteer as a firefighter in my home community. It does not however apply to paid 1st responders, every time I have felt threatened has been while on the ...

Re: SB 1408 - Call to Action ***Need your help***

I would be forever grateful if you guys could help us get this bill pushed through its last hurdle. It's well crafted, doesn't allow me to do anything you can't do when I am off duty or create another "elite" group. All this lets me do is get home safely to my wife and kids. My best man go...

SB 1408 - Call to Action ***Need your help***

Texas Senate Bill 1408 allows trained and qualified fire and EMS first responders to carry a concealed weapon on duty for defensive use. Situations like these happen all the time. EMS First Responders are seven times more likely to be murdered in the line of duty than any other Healthcare profession...

Re: HB56. Who does it apply too?

You are not legally allowed to break down the door to my home, is that a bad law? No it's an excellent law. First responders working under exigent circumstances are legally allowed to trespass on your property and break down your door, is that a bad law? No it's an excellent law. That's a good poin...

Re: HB56. Who does it apply too?

Can you explain your statement? If a law is a good law, it doesn't need loopholes. Everybody would be equal under a good law. If a law is a bad law, it doesn't need loopholes. It needs to be repealed. Just curious, are you advocating that we repeal 30.06 or simply that first responders should not b...

Re: HB56. Who does it apply too?

Yes, §161.001 makes any hospital emergency department staff including MD's, RN's, tech's, etc first responders. Section a(vii) and B is interpreted very broadly in most other settings to include utility workers, HAM operators, CERT, you name it. In my opinion this is a very vital bill. In the past m...

Re: HB 3496

My partner was violently attacked by a prisoner trying to escape during a transfer from the jail to the hospital last week. My best friend earned the department's highest valor award last year for wining in a hand to hand struggle over a .357 revolver a husband of a patient pulled on 7 responders in...

Re: Travis County DA Lehmberg arrested for DWI

Is she a CHL permit holder? Was she carrying at the time? I actually have an open records request in to the Travis County Sheriffs Office about this very topic requesting the arrest report, vehicle inventory, and any documents related to a firearm recovered during the arrest. It would surprise me g...

For the record and I hate to sound like a spoiled child, but thats what you told us last session Charles and I never saw "a full, complete, and candid analysis" of the 2011 session. I trust you are working as hard as you can on these issues and I thank you for that, let us know what you ne...

I still need a law that prevents PUBLIC employers from banning concealed carry by employees on government property except in places LEO's are prohibited.

Reflections on the 2011 Texas Legislative Session?

I for one would like to thank Mr. Cotton for his tireless efforts on behalf of all Texans. While I assume that after the events of this session Mr. Cotton needs a few months off I have to admit my selfishness and desire to learn the back story behind many of the events that occurred this year which ...

Guess Mr. Cotton is too busy with the holiday season for a reply but I would really like to see this on the agenda at some point.
