Re: Recommend an AR at $700 max

Last night, I zeroed my friend's new SW Sporter-2 flat top rifle with UTG steel folding sights. The rifle was very sweet, trigger is very nice for a factory rifle. Very accurate at 10-25 yard with Iron sights. After zeroed, my friend was able to shoot in 2" circle at 10-25 yards.

I know that is not remarkable, but I am not an Iron Sight shooter. :thumbs2:

The Annoyed Man wrote:Just out of curiosity, have you considered either the Springfield Saint w/ Free Float Handguard ($1049), or the Savage MSR15 Recon w/ Free Float Handguard ($999)? MSRP on both comes in at right around $1,000, but I’ll bet that street price would come pretty close to your $700 “maximum”.

Just a thought. Both are reputable gun manufacturers, even if both are pretty new to the AR world. Both guns seem to be well put together.

I’m seeing a Springfield Saint with free Float Handguard on Gunbroker.com for $799, and a Savage MSR Recon for $821.
My buddy is the new owner, It is his 3rd firearms. I hooked him up with USA made Caracal Enhanced F, an RRA 1911 Expert Nickel plated. And, no he wants a Basic M4 clone. I recommended FFloating Barrel but would be happy with something mlike S&W MP Sporter II. At Cabelas, I just manhandled said MP and it felt well built.

He is shying away from 18". Colt, he likes more. It may cost more too.

2) Flat top with drop down down back up sight.
3) Decent tigger
4) Reputable manufacturer and good quality build

Price: $700 level
