If your only objection to the Wart Hawg is that it's too fat for your current need, then maybe the single-stack version (holds 6+1) would work. The black version is only $681 new from Bud's Guns (and that includes shipping but not the receiving FFL fee):

My wife may wind up with one of these; she thinks it's cute. And no, I don't know why she thinks it's cuter than the Springfield or any of the other small 1911 45s. Nor do I intend to ask.
