I typically go to the range alone. I usually keep my shooting to about an hour or less - don't think that I would much enjoy shooting by myself for as many as 4 hours.

It wouldn't deter the BGs; it might even attract them unless the person carrying the bag actually kept one hand inside the bag at all times.
