Re: Loading .270 Win

I love Varget, but not for the 270. Note that Hodgdon does not list Varget data for the 270 in bullets over 140gr. I get very good accuracy in the 270 with Alliant RL19. Agree with the previous post that you really need to stay with the slower powders if you want to get full use of the 270's abiliti...

Re: Added 2 more presses.

Around 14 years ago I decided these old arms only had so many lever strokes left so I got a Dillon 550, then traded up for a 650 couple of years later, best thing I ever did for myself. 4 strokes plus hand priming to make a 45 acp bullet on the Rock Chucker, 1 stroke to make one on the 650. A couple...

Re: Somebody needs to tell a story or have some questions he

Most modern 45 Colt FMJ bullets are .451 dia, same as 45acp and .452 for lead bullets. Hornady makes their 45 Colt FMJ bullets with a .452 dia but their 45acp is .451. I guess this is why they have a 451 and 452 expander. I am not sure why they make the Colt bullets .001 larger than others but they ...

Re: .45 long colt load

Ruger only load - 17.0 of 2400 with Penn 270 Gr Thunderhead ( a flatnose lead bullet). Chrono's 1022 fps in my 5 1/2" and 1066 in my 7 1/2" Blackhawk. Have never shot a hog with this gun but would bet this load will put a hole on both sides of most North American critters.

Re: places to shoot

There are both public and private ranges in this area. Private ranges are very reasonable, public ranges are a "for profit" business so they are more expensive. Some public ranges have memberships that allow you to shoot at a reduced price. A lot depends on what area of Dallas you will loc...

22BR load data

Looking for load data on 80gr Hornady A-max in 22BR. Not a lot of info available for this caliber in the heavy bullets. Hodgdon's web site only goes to 70 gr, my Hornady manual stops at 55. I have checked handloads.com and the 6BR web site, neither one any data on 22BR that I could use for this bull...

Re: Crimping the .44Mag

The only sure way I know to confirm I have enough crimp on my heavy loads in 44 mag and 454 Casull is to test them. I will load up 5 rounds and take them to the range with my calipers. I select one for the test round, measure the OAL and load it in the cylinder along with one of the other rounds. Af...

Re: Making subsonic .223

Hodgdon now has subsonic loads for the 223 listed in their on line reloading center with 3 different powders, Trail Boss, Titegroup and Clays and only with a 55 gr bullet. Not sure how long this data has been available, I was checking their web site for 223 loads a couple of months ago and I think I...

Re: Making subsonic .223

If you are worried about detonation then find a copy of Speer manual #14 and read page 48, it is also covered in issue #13. The real danger of such reduced loads is the bullet not exiting the barrel and the shooter firing another round. Speer lists several 223 "reduced loads" in their manu...

Re: A Cautionary Tale about brass sorting

In my reloading world there are three evil calibers, S&W 40, the 380 and 22 rimfire. The 380 will cycle completely thru my Dillon 650 when I am making 9mm. The few times this has happened I caught it at the crimping station, never had one make it to the range. The S&W 40 will not cycle while...

Re: Reloading Fire/Explosion in Dallas

I had an uncle in law that was a fireman for 30 plus years. On more than one occasion I remember him saying that loaded ammo or gun powder was no big deal to him. The only thing firearm related that bothered him in a fire was loaded guns. If they cook off you have a real bullet flying around.

Re: VihtaVuori

I quit looking and placed an order with Powder Valley, average price delivered to my door for the 6 different powders ordered is $28.25. To get things in perspective my last order to PV cost me $14.00 a pound delivered.

Re: Dillon 650XL or 550B

Reloading for me is one of those hobbies you build on for many years. If you plan to be a long time reloader then do not look at what a 650 with 5 or 6 caliber setup will cost you today. Start with one or two calibers and grow from there. Almost all reloading equipment will last you a lifetime so st...

B & S Guns. They are about 100 yards south of I-30 on the east side of Broadway, I think this street is also called Beltline. I have made two trips there, first to get a 6mm Dewey cleaning rod and another trip to get a #3 RCBS shell holder.(both of which I found a couple of days after I bought n...
