Re: Attacking pit bull shot in League City

I'm of the mindset to blame the owner, not blame the breed. I view it as a combination of ingredients. Maybe owners could/should do better at training and restraining their pit bulls. However, it seems that when there's a news account of a vicious dog attack, often a pit bull is involved. I don't r...

Re: The Finished 300 blackout build!!

I've shot a few of hogs with my 300 BLK, although I mostly use my AR-10. I've tried several bullets, all Hornady. I'm settling on their 110 grain SP 'cuz it's cheaper, but I've used 130 grain SP and 110 grain VMAX and they all work. The VMAX are indeed a varmit bullet, but that means they expand at ...

Re: RV Batteries in Parallel

Nope. Smaller battery will achieve full charge, then the larger battery becomes the path of least resistance due to it's lower level of charge. Hence current will flow to the larger battery. Think of two drums, one 10 gallon, one 5 gallon, both at same height with a tube connecting both of them. Fi...

Re: December 7, 1941 - A Day to Remember

Thanks to all who were part of the effort. 07-DEC-1941 was a tough start to an even tougher war in the Pacific. On a related note, I just went to the Pacific War museum in Fredericksburg less than a couple weeks ago (thanks to surprise_i'm_armed for the suggestion!). For those who are nearby, I hig...

Had a similar issue a while back. Wanted to buy a rifle for a friend. Solution was to give the friend a "gift certificate", and then have them go fill out the forms and take possession of the rifle.

Whatever you do, DON"T change your mailing address to get mail in California. I'm not sure what other options exist, perhaps you could have it forwarded, or sent to a PO Box from which someone else would forward it to you. If you change you mailing address, CA will consider you a resident and t...

Re: Blindsided

An unplanned gas station stop was one of the things that convinced me to get my CHL/LTC. I was driving from Austin to SE Texas on a Friday evening, and started out with a little over a half tank of gas. I figured that would get me through Houston to around Cedar Bayou where there are some gas statio...

Re: First time as a civilian drawing my weapon preparing to engage

I have taught both my children and my wife that when the voice in the back of your head tells you something is amiss to listen to it and get out of there, our primative brain, our survival instinct whatever you chose to call it will clue in on things our higher intellect will ignore, if a situation...

Re: Afghanistan: Outgoing Mail

When I was in Vietnam, I was on perimeter guard duty one night and about 3:00AM I felt the irresistible urge to use the latrine. This was going to be a major transaction! I told my buddies (there were three of us in a bunker along the berm line) I'd be back, and hustled off along the road behind the...

Re: Single Stage Press: Hornady vs RCBS?

I have and have had a 'few' presses. Currently I think I am down to 5 total, this is a low point. Your absolute best bet is to find a nice, previously love rcbs - they are always out there and like almost any good tool - they wear in, not out. As long as the RAM (not the handle) has no side play, y...
