Re: July '08 Applications

31 days after hand-delivering my renewal documents to DPS headquarters my online status has changed from Packet mailed to applicant to Processing application. This is encouraging.

Re: July '08 Applications

Dropped off my renewal materials at DPS headquarters in Austin yesterday, July 21, or about 90 days before my current CHL expires. When I did the same thing for my previous renewal, four years ago, the clerk informed me I'd get my new license within 45 days, as the law requires. No such statement th...

Thank you for the review, Mr. Camp. FWIW, the Model 10 is and always has been my favorite revolver. The first good gun I ever bought was a second-hand Model 10 (6-inch, blue). This was back in 1972. I still have it! S&W seems to have made a run of 10's with 3-inch standard barrels circa 1981. Al...

I was dining in the Hyde Park Grill in South Austin and was startled to see a 51% sign by the bar. No way the establishment as a whole can be 51%, as food rather than liquor clearly predominates. Quite confusing.

I always use Red's Indoor Range in Oak Hill. It's convenient to my home, the staff is courteous, and the shooters seem like a responsible bunch. That said, the range is a bit run down and the AC is either blowing cold on the back of my neck or feels inadequate. But the convenience makes up for any s...

My CHL instructors always used this range through my original course and two recertifications, which spoke well for its convenience, at least. But I don't believe they'd have chosen it if it was institutionally unsafe. Certainly it wasn't so wild and woolly as the operator's former range on RR 2222-...

"The American way, protect $500 worth of junk in your garage, while your $25,000 car sits on the driveway." Too true! Of the seven houses on my cul-de-sac, only two of us use our garages for cars! The other cars continue to sit outside, even though we've had several instances of vandalism ...

I'm sorry to hear about these problems because I've gotten repeatedly excellent service from SG. Sounds like I've been lucky--so far.

FWIW, every time I've been interviewed for a newspaper article the reporter was more interested in speed than accuracy. Accuracy was only important to the extent of making the article appear convincing or plausible. So I always take what I read with a grain of salt. What I'm getting at is that the s...

FWIW, I've thought about carrying at work, but it's a huge no-no (I work at a university), so I finally decided against it. To me, the risk of losing my job--or worse--is greater than the risk I run by not being armed. I do keep a pistol in my vehicle, however, which is legal even in a campus parkin...

The Brits have gotten so out of touch with reality that their thinking is downright bizarre. How 'bout a law requiring cricket bats to be made of rubber? At this rate, it's on the horizon. The sorry devolution of a once-great nation.

Depending on my clothing, I carry an S&W Model 342PD in a pocket holster or a Glock 30 in a Sidearmor belt holster. For me, this is a flexible and comfortable system.
