Quite happy with my Kahr K40 - reliable, accurate, great power-to-size ratio. The Kahr metal lowers seem to have fewer reliability issues reported than the polymer frame guns. I have a PM380 that I like but I wish the frame was metal.

Shame to hear about this - I lived in Bloomington for many years and there is a wonderful population of active shooters in the area.
