Re: Fun With Gas Checks

There are a couple of ways to seat gas checks reasonably straight with the Lyman 450 or equivalent. First and easiest way. Start a gas check on the heel of the bullet. Place the bullet in the "H" die so the gas check sits on the "I" With the appropriate nose punch in the ram, tap...

Re: Government inspections.

Very interesting. I just had 15000 primers, and 16 lbs of powder show up last week from Powder Valley, and did not see this message. I was tracking it daily once they said it shipped. Maybe the packaging has been damaged and required inspection. I doubt the G-men have enough time and resour...

Re: Government inspections.

My primer shipment is finally in transit again after a 24 hour delay.

Makes me wonder what they are up to. :headscratch

Re: Government inspections.

I've had my dog on guard since 06:00 and he hasn't alerted on anything.

He can smell a rat two miles away... Of at least he should be able to, He's a Rat Terrier. "rlol"

Re: Government inspections.

I doubt the shipment was damaged. It hadn't started it's journey yet.

I just changed the shipping notice image to show the entire schedule.

Charles, do you have any idea what this means?

Government inspections.

Just a heads-up that we are being watched. I recently was fortunate enough to find 5,000 small pistol primers at Natchez. My shipping notice just arrived with some unusual text I have never seen before.

Has anyone else seen this??

Re: Cast .224 Projectiles

I use the same sizing die for my jacketed reloads and they are not loose. I may have to get another "sizing button" and try this. Sounds like a good idea! What is the diameter of the bullet after sizing? Should be approximately .225. Sounds like you're getting ready to have lots of fun. :...

Re: Cast .224 Projectiles

Over the past 40 years I have fired 7000 or 8000 of these little guys in 44 grain and 50 grain weights from 22 Hornet and 222 Remington. I tried a few in my Mini-14 that worked pretty well but I prefer not to have bullet lube in the gas system. Gas check seating is very critical if you wish to obtai...

Re: Hot lead reminder.

I use an old slotted spoon for skimming off the dross after fluxing the pot. I picked it up and went to stir and POW :blowup hot lead all over the place. Most hit the floor but enough hit bare skin to make me sit up and take notice. :cryin I am sure glad I only need my glasses when I want to see :c...

Re: First 50

I only checked the Lyman 49th edition when first looking at your load. Since you had used exactly the same brass, primer and bullet your load didn't appear to be too far out of line. It was a little above starting charge but still in the low side. Alliant data: 16.0 gr BD gave them 1495 fps. Lyman: ...

Congratulations!!!

I started reloading in 1971. I still haven't broken even because my saving just keep getting invested in more components and guns. "rlol"

I hope you get to enjoy it as much and for as long as I have.

Re: lubing molds

According to all mold manufacturers the lube is to be applied only to the guide pins/V-bars and sprue plate hinge to prevent wear. If a mold is used with these areas dry excessive wear will result and the mold halves will not be in proper alignment. That will result in bullets which are out of round...
