If you read the book "Rise of the Warrior Cop", it details that much of the incarceration in the US is drug related. Other sources like the link below appear to confirm that. So to balance that, we seem bent on releasing criminals who commit violent like this robbery. Too often, I see criminals who finally escalate their activities to very violent acts who have long previous rap sheets. Quickly multiplying the sentences for those past crimes confirms that if they had be served, the creeps would have still been in jail when the latest crime was committed.
