"...primary reasons people don't get a CHL."

Charles, Many people have no idea how to go about it. I've had people who are familiar with guns, hunt regularly, and "ought" to know, ask me how to go about getting a CHL. I refer them to the DPS web site - but there ought to be a simple, printed page that gun stores etc. would give out, ...

It's great! People (other engineers) come to my office with work-related questions or problems, and wind up staring at the 1911 animation screen saver, totally loosing track of what they wanted.

Puts their problems into perspective, I guess.

dws1117, Depends on the people, the neighborhood, whether there are other restaurants nearby, and where the car is relative to the restaurant, among other things. I am not as worried about offending people as perhaps I should be. Might just say, "The 30.06 sign means I'm not welcome here... if ...

Charles, Jeez Louise! I saw: "Andrew, you withheld critical information about your situation that changes my response entirely!" and thought I'd really put my foot in it. Glad you were just kidding! My screen name may be BobCat but I'm much more like your typical stray - no pedigree, and p...

Gentlemen, Again, 'Thank You' for replying. I suppose it is foolish to need my actions "validated" by others, but I was indeed uncomfortable with the prospect of carrying in a person's home, who I believe is an anti. Once we were there it was not an issue and I think it was the right thing...

Lindy, Thanks! I agree tht most people don't think about it, and even though these people know I shoot rifle matches, I doubt the thought of anyone actually carrying a handgun would ever enter their minds. What my problem is, is that I know I'm doing something in someone else's home, that they would...

Thanks for the reply! This happened last Saturday evening. Party at the home of my wife's friend. I carried as normal, no one had any reason to know or notice, but in some way I felt it was rude and wondered how others see the situation. My wife questioned it since it is a small house and she though...

Carry at other people's homes

Suppose you generally carry everywhere not specifcally prohibited by law, and are invited into the home of someone you believe would not want you to be carrying - a friend of your wife's, or someone you are friendly with but not friends with. Suppose further that it is a "nice" suburb wher...

Well, I have to admit that I got the license in response to the Brady background check law, not really thinking about carrying every day. Before the so-called "instant" check, they had a three day wait or something like that, and I felt put upon, and read that the CHL was an automatic &quo...

Encouragement

dws1117,

My renewal came yesterday; only took 5-6 weeks from when I sent it.

Look at it this way: you have an exciting surprise coming in the mail, and it could come any day. Just like waiting for your CMP Garand.

Regards,
Andrew

I spend a lot of time at Bayou Rifles, in Juliff. Was membership director for two years - honesty / disclosure - but objectively I think it is a good outfit. Some rules - no drawing an firing from the holster - put people off. Also, to shoot supressed firearms you need to get a "mother-may-I pa...

Charles, Thanks for an informative post. Ed's Red is what I use mostly - Hoppes copper solvent sometimes but for regular cleaning, Ed's Red. My biggest problem was finding containers for it after I mixed it up, since the acetone in it will eat plastic. I found some little 1 pint metal screw-top cans...

Wrangler western shirt, unbuttoned, with the cuffs rolled up two turns, worn over T-shirt or short-sleeve dress shirt; IWB holster. CZ75B disappears, does not print as long as I do not bend at the waist (bend knees to pick things up off ground). Re-holstering takes practice to keep the shirt-tail ou...
