Re: Calaveras and Braunig Lakes

If my understanding of the 30.06 signs is correct, the prohibits you from entering a build or portion of a building, so as long as you don't enter any buildings it should be legal to carry. Wrong, 30.06 and 30.07 use the term property, not premises. I was wondering if it applied to just the store o...

Calaveras and Braunig Lakes

Checked the lakes out today. Not good fishing at all with a strong N wind. I noticed 30.06 signs visible at the drive up window where you pay the fee. I think these parks are state parks, which can't ban carry. Problem is that instead of the usual no firearms allowed signs these were the actual 06 s...

Re: Any advice on holsters/safes/storage of handguns while in your car?

Have a nano vault under hide under the seat. Not the best but will stop the usual smash and run person and is easily movable between vehicles. As an emergency, if nothing else is available, keep some trash on one of the floor boards. Stash the gun in one of the fast food bags. Again not that secure ...

Re: Ammo Split Case

Could be a pressure issue specially if 5.56 shot in a .223 chamber but maybe not. I've had cases split like that on some of my reloads but only if I try to get too much life out of them. After reloading a half dozen times the brass can become very brittle. Some reloaders anneal their brass to preven...

Re: Blackhawk Serpa Holster

I can see how easily an ND could result from using a Serpa since you press the release with your trigger finger. I have an ALS, which I've never used for carrying other than around the house and when working out in my field, and like the way it works. Very natural to unlock, much like flipping a 191...

Re: Concealed Carry OWB vs IWB? Your Opinions Requested

Back when I first started carrying I was told that IWB was too uncomfortable but once I tried it I found that just not so. Gun placement is more critical but I can carry all day long with an IWB without even thinking about it. I've also carried OWB and the only thing I don't like about it is the cov...

Re: A Round in the Chamber Carry?

Been carrying since 97 and always have the chamber loaded. To do otherwise is basically carrying an unloaded gun. Only exception would be if I was carrying an old style single action revolver. The newer ones, like the Ruger Blackhawke with a transfer bar, carry a round in all six chambers. (Only rea...

Re: New Alien Gear Cloak Tuck 2.0

"Kydex" is like "Kleenex" in usage - whatever AlienGear is using I've no doubt it is a 0.093" thick form of moldable thermoplastic acrylic-polyvinyl chloride same as Kydex. The precision of the AG molding is outstanding from my experience with their holster versus others of...

Re: Poll: What's Your EDC CCW Holster?

For my 3rd gen S&W used a Crossbreed type homemade. When I got my Shield I used a Remora until my Alien Gear hybrid arrived. Now just use simple kydex IWB from On Your Six Designs. Still use the Remora around the house from time to time and for keeping the gun on my bedside table at night. Probl...

Re: Well, this is embarrassing

Looks like some 9mm cases my daughter and I "enjoyed". A couple of times in an old Star M30 I use to have and one in my Shield. No damage to either gun but we had to fight flinching for a bit afterwards. I know there were no double, or over charges for that matter, due to using a single st...

Re: Gunpowder from Urine

Didn't watch the video but saltpeter, Potassium Nitrate, can be extracted from ashes of wood, bat guano, and other sources. It supplies the oxygen for the reaction. Urine was used early on in the production of gun powder, black powder that is, to help keep the slurry moist to prevent the building fr...

Re: Not sure how to interpret.

The hotel is interesting. What about if the gun is packed in your luggage in the same manner as you were to declare it for a flight? I don't think that would be a violation of 30.06. If not, once you are in your room for the night wouldn't it then be legal to unpack it so as to be ready if need be? ...

Re: Pocket Carry

Pocket holsters are a different beast than a belt holster. While the cheap nylon holsters are not suitable for daily defense carry they are OK in some situations. They work OK for carrying a hunting handgun and I never had any problems using an Uncle Mike's pocket holster for my 38 snubbie. I prefer...

Re: recommendations for a 1 3/4" belt

About 15 years ago my wife bought me a holster and belt, horsehide, from Kramer Leather. The holster, an OWB, is still in super shape but the belt while serviceable is showing signs of wear. Plus I've lost about 30 pounds since and have had to punch more than a couple of holes. Figure after 15 years...
