That is a good round Crash. There are alot of places to get info on ammo from and a Law Inforcement Agency is surely one. SkipB, I've read and heard good things about the GDHP from almost every source. My reason for asking the Police Dept is that if, God forbid, I did have to shoot someone to prote...

and where did that suggestion come from? The same guy that says you should intentionally miss on the CHL test. FWIW, I asked our city cops what they use. They do not have a standard weapon or ammunition. IIRC, the only requirements are 9 mm or .38 Special or larger hollowpoints. - Jim Jim, Who said...

Massad Ayoob was one source, but I've gotten the same suggestion from other sources, both in print and on-line.

Local Police Ammo

I've always heard that it's a good idea to use the same type of ammunition that your local police department uses, so today I checked with the police here in Fredericksburg: they use Speer GDHP in .40 cal.

As luck would have it, that's what I use in my two handguns.

Beautiful pistol, Mr. Camp. I don't think I've ever fired a Hi-Power, but I do like the way they look--and I certainly like the way yours performs. My problem is that I have small hands and short fingers and most autoloaders with double-column magazines are just too big for me. I've tried Berettas, ...

Threat assessment is a very personal and individual thing. A 25-year-old male, 6'4" tall, and 250 lbs, unarmed, may not be much of a threat to another male of the same age and size. However, I'm 66 years old, 5'6" tall, and weigh 165 lbs. The 25-year-old male described above, even if unarm...

How can you justify shooting someone who is running away from you? I guess if he is still shooting at you (remember the old Westerns with the good guy being chased on horseback and shooting at the bad guys chasing him?), but I think that's pretty unlikely. Even if it did happen, you'd be better off ...

An acquaintance of ours was forced to shoot a home intruder earlier this year. He heard a noise in his garage about 4:00 AM, armed himself with a handgun, and went to the door that opens into the garage. When he opened it, he saw a young man, clothed only from the waist up, moving toward him. He war...

Is this a real case you are reporting, or simply an example of the sort of thing that happens all too often on college campuses. The reason that I am asking is that there are two things that strike me as odd about the case: 1. I know that it is typical in such cases that the vicitims are hesitant to...

I have a DeSantis nemisis for a Kahr Pm9. This is a pretty small setup and works well with all pants and shorts except jeans. I wear levis 550. I think the way this jean is designed (and probably many others) cause it not to work will w/ pocket holsters because th front pocket entry is much more ve...

Never Again

Not sure banging on the door alone would get me to fire my weapon. Without positive identification of the target, there is too much risk involved in shooting through a door. First, I'd call 911. I'd let them know I am armed and in fear of my life. Second, I, would make sure my family was in a safe ...

Gotcha Covered

I carry exclusively in my right front pocket and I don't think I have ever covered anybody else. I don't think the holster orients the weapon in a way that if it fired it would hit my leg, however, I guess it's covering my right foot.
