Re: SIGH - Seal shoots himself in head
I live just down the road from the Special Warfare Center. Many of my friends are/were SEALs (mostly O-5/O-6 now retired). I've been buddies with some of these guys for many years, including my bro-in-law, a retired O-6 SEAL. It seems impossible with all the training they get with guns that somethin...

Re: Eye sight and getting older
All my life I had better vision than almost anyone, better than 20/20. I qualified to fly jets in the Navy, although I did not do so. Some years ago I noticed I could no longer read the Thomas Bro map book in the car at night, and things gradually got worse as the years went by. As my eye doctor sai...

Re: House has Sold, Texas, Here I come!
After 44 years living in what has become the socialist hellhole of California, our house has sold, as of last week, and sometime this spring this Native Texan will once more be a resident of Texas. :woohoo Praise Jesus! We're leaving California today to head back to Texas. We have to take I-10 this...

Re: Robbery-murder in Galveston
Sometimes I think we sould rebuild gallows on courthouse lawns, and USE them. Maybe that would deter crime a little. Maybe a bit extreme..... It is extreem. Murder is extreem too. Robbery, burglery & even assault victim can recover their losses & sometimes health. No murder victim ever reco...

Re: House has Sold, Texas, Here I come!
We will be locating in the Canyon Lake, Spring Branch, Boerne area. I grew up in New Braunfels, a long, long time ago, and would prefer to live close to there but all the newer areas prohibit outside antennas, and I am an amateur radio operator of more than 50 years. Finding a suitable home free of ...

Re: USAA and 30.06
When I retire and move back to Texas soon, I may have to make other arrangements. I am curious what this would have to do with you needing to make other arrangements. If you feel the need to protest their policies I fail to see how where you live would make a difference. I haven't had to worry abou...

Re: USAA and 30.06
I have been a USAA member for more than 40 years. In that time, I figure it is the most valuable reward for military service, other than the thanks of a grateful nation. I have saved more on car and home insurance, and credit card interest rates, than I MADE the whole time I was in the Navy, active ...

Re: Need recommendations for car gun
How about a Winchester 94, in .357 magnum? Those are short, light, decent firepower and pretty easy to carry. Leverguns, probably in .30-.30, used to be on the back window of every pickup truck you saw when I was growing up in the hill country, a long, long time ago.

Re: FN Five-Seven vs Beretta 92FS
In my experience, somewhat limited compared to some, the first step is finding a pistol that feels good in your hand. Of course, you should learn proper grip, mechanics to make this easier. I shot every pistol in the rental cabinet at the LGS and range before deciding on my first pistol, a Sig 226 N...

I figure that if 9mm is good enough for SEALS and SAS, it's good enough for me. Of course, those guys know how to shoot.

Another very interesting account on this topic is found at http://www.gunthorp.com/Terminal%20Ball ... morgue.htm.
Among the numerous great lines... "there is no such thing as an attempted suicide with a .44 magnum!"

Re: Best 9mm JHP for primary carry?
Does the manufacturer have a recommendation? When I bought my P7M8, I had some 147 grain ammo used in my Sig 226 Navy, and found it caused feeding problems with the P7M8. When I started trying to figure this out, I discovered the P7M8 was designed to run 124 grain. With that it is completely happy. ...

Re: Introduce yourself
Greetings. I am an about to retire lawyer and investment manager who has lived in San Diego since I was ordered here as a brand new Navy officer in the middle of the Viet Nam war. I'm a native Texan and UT alum who grew up in the hill country and am planning to move back there in a year perhaps, aft...
