Re: Negative Trooper Encounter
I don't think anyone here is in the habit of demeaning police officers or the job they do. But lets look at it another way. You, as a cop, are just told to check for stolen guns routinely when you stop a CHL. You report serial numbers of guns in these stops to check they're not stolen. Can you, as ...

Re: Negative Trooper Encounter
Thanks but that is already covered here: http://www.texasshooting.com/TexasCHL_Forum/viewtopic.php?f=23&t=25751" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; What we are talking about in this thread is TXDPS "running" serial numbers of guns found while on traffic stops. The...

Re: Negative Trooper Encounter
Of course I mean a "Fight" after the fact. Not on the street, but in the courts. But why should I even have to fight? What am I paying TSRA and NRA for? They should be jumping on this like white on rice! This is obviously a new attempt to create a database of guns and owners of border sta...

Re: Negative Trooper Encounter
What is this bull about running the number of your weapon? This is registration! They have no database.....they are creating one!...... If I am stopped, they will not get the serial number of my weapon without a fight! :banghead: Not true, it's a simple check in the NCIC/TCIC database to see if the...

Re: Negative Trooper Encounter
... if the officer was Mic'd, and there was video from their cruiser, perhaps it would show your case better. And only filing a complaint will guarantee that data gets saved. Every DPS patrol vehicle is equipped with video and each and every stop is recorded. On DVD -R or +R, depending on the equip...

Re: Fact check on traffic stops in Texas
I've been stopped a few times, never been asked for my SSN. Also, worked as a police dispatcher for 3 years before getting my current job. There is no SSN on the DL, or listed on any DL return from the state IIRC. The ONLY legitimate reason I can think of for him requesting that information is that...

Re: Fact check on traffic stops in Texas
Y'all forgive me if I missed this in a previous thread. I'm checking into whether or not it's "normal" or if it is reasonable for an officer to ask for a driver's SSN during a traffic stop under threat of arrest for not complying. Any help would be appreciated. To answer: "Yes."...

Re: Poll: Do you support open-carry in Texas?
I haven't visited this forum for about a month so I just saw this today.
And as of my vote today 57% of the voters on this forum are supportive of Open Carry.
Does this surprise anyone? Because it doesn't surprise me.

Re: CHL or jail?
What would have been the punishment for a class a? It's not good. I was just pointing out that it probably wasn't a felony to be carrying in the car wash between your office and the lube shop. There's also the "inside of or directly en route to a motor vehicle that is owned by the person or un...
