Re: What are you currently reading?

I'm almost finished rereading the Freehold series by Michael Z. Williamson, published by Baen. Military SF. If you like science fiction w/ out all the SJW dreck that crowds the field these days, Baen is the place you want to spend some time. Bonus, they hate DRM and their books are available in ever...

Re: Looking for a gunsmith

XD sights can be challenging, but shouldn't be an issue to any gunsmith or gun shop in your area with the right tools.

If you don't find anybody, and you happen to get to Houston, shoot me a PM and I'll fix you up.

Re: HCSO: DEPUTY FATALLY SHOT AT GAS STATION IN NORTHWEST HARRIS COUNTY

It's a valid line of inquiry. With only about six months from date of manufacture to crime, this gun doesn't have a lot of history. Was it a straw purchase by a family member or girlfriend? If that's the case, will there be a prosecution? If it was stolen, was it reported? Did he buy it 'on the stre...

I'm a fan of the Lucas Bore Solvent & Ultrasonic Gun Cleaner. No noxious odor is a big plus.

Re: Base Exchange to be Opened to Vets

It's actually a smart move by the Exchange folks. Between the push to merge all the service exchanges into one entity and dwindling budgets, they need some way of bringing in new revenue. Even if they only got a small percentage of the eligible veterans to shop w/ them online, their bottom line woul...

Re: Base Exchange to be Opened to Vets

Back in the day, it was a tossup between the Yokosuka exchange or AAFES Yokota as to who had the better stereo gear. Many a fun road trip was had between the two destinations. Remember browsing the shops in Akihabara, drooling, and then settling for what I could afford at the base exchange. They had...

Re: Base Exchange to be Opened to Vets

I've made three attempts since I first applied for my CHL back in 2002 to obtain another copy of my DD-214. Two were by methods advised here on this forum. So far, none have been successful. The application just seems to fade away into oblivion and no one knows anything about it and I'm told to do ...

I got an automated reply Saturday (8/20) afternoon for using the contact form, and then a 'human' generated reply Monday morning (8/22) acknowledging receipt of that CHL8, added to file, etc.

Re: NRA Basic Pistol - Phase 1 e-learning plans?

No takers on the blended pistol course. Multiple takers on my "Introduction to Handguns" course which shares a lot with the now defunct NRA First Steps course. I used to pitch them equally. But the additional time required kills interest in the new course more than cost. Now, I menti...

Re: Kindle pros and cons

Reading on a Kindle is a lot easier on the eyes than the tablets, and has better battery life (not having to power that display and whatever background apps/tasks are running). Being able to send elibrary books to the Kindle is a nice bonus. You can copy DRM-free books straight to your kindle via mi...

Re: Duplicate License

I don't recall there having ever been a requirement to return the expired old one. Granted, I didn't not get mine until 2002, but I've never been instructed to return any of mine after renewal. IIRC, the only instructions are to destroy the expired one. That's a start. Where is that instruction loc...

Re: Duplicate License

Welcome to the forum. You cannot have two Texas CHL's; only one at a time. You really need to have you license on your person at all times in case you have to exit your vehicle or home and get off of your property while carrying. Just keep it with your drivers license as you have to show it when as...
