MJR,

Go to the NRA website and navigate until you find their insurance info.

It will tell everything you want to know.

I haven't but on the Texas Hunting Forum I've read of a few people that had to file a claim and it was no big deal. Some for loss, some for damage.

2500 I think for the free insurance, you do have to fill out paperwork to initiate it though.

After signing on to NRA go to Member Benefits and then Discount Programs. Activate your insurance. I just did all of that. Now we wait and see how much spam starts filling up my mailbox. NRA should automatically give you this "benefit" without "activation".
I am a USAA member and used to have a floater for gun insurance. Very expensive though. Much cheaper to buy a big heavy safe. I keep a Taurus in my truck. No loss if stolen.
