This NRA book may have an index, but the cover is most certainly not indexed...

Are they displaying a thug?

If not, I don't understand: Finger on trigger and what appears like potentially threatening behavior rather than self defense behavior.

Can anyone here explain what appears to be a tasteless display?

It may be a clumsy way of trying to communicate it, but could the cover picture supposedly portray a bad guy, who is armed, unknown the the good guy, as a reason for the good guy to also be armed?

Can't be. His pants are pulled up. ;-)

Yeah, it's hard to tell what the message is, but it looks like the art department needs to be fired before the next edition. JMHO.

At least they were classy enough to picture a Python.

If you have to wait to see the threat of a gun, chances are you are already too late. This seems to me to be a good guy who is alert and at the ready, without threatening display. He is holding pistol ready behind his back so as not to escalate is not needed.

No way this is a bad guy, this is a clean wheel gun with proper waist hanging pants. Not some slimeball with his rear hanging out and a Hi-Point turned sideways.

I didn't figure I'd be the only one to notice the finger on the trigger. Punish the art department/advertising company and proofreaders for improper display of gun handling for a gun publication. How 'bout the title, "Legally Armed, Still in Need of Training."

If he had just drawn from small-of-the-back, he was also apparently carrying without a holster.

If this guy is depicting a thug, why would anyone expect him to be using a holster or exhibit any trigger disapline?

The fact that we're guessing at the meaning of the image demonstrates how poor a choice the designers made.

He's the good guy. Read the tag on the pants.

I wrote a nice email to the NRA and got an answer. I'm happy the image of questionable gun handling is gone, but sorry to hear of a book disappearing.

Here's what I got back:
Thank you for your support of the NRA. Yes unfortunately this was an updated edition that replaced the 2nd edition, so it was a rolling change with the publisher and once we received the stock to change the website image, it was too late. We have since taken down this book from the NRAstore and discontinued based off of the poor display of firearms safety portrayed on the cover. We have also notified the publisher of the book so that they can have a chance to produce a new cover, hopefully.
