Florida Mother Shot in Back By 4 Year Old

A Florida woman is recovering after being shot in the back by her 4-year-old son.

Jamie Gilt of Jacksonville, Florida, was reportedly driving Tuesday afternoon when the child picked up a gun in the back seat and fired a shot. The bullet struck the woman in the back and exited her torso.

I am curious about this also. Did she have in a bag and the kid got into the bag? Did she think it was out of reach? The article has no details so I hate to jump to conclusions. Even the law enforcement official quoted had no information. I do think it is pointless to bring charges.

Also, just because she has spoken out on the pro-gun side doesn't necessarily mean she is some icon of the pro-gun movement.

OMG Florida again...

Just so many questions on how the 4 yr old in the back seat got the gun... Ultimately we have to assume it was in the backseat for the 4 yr old to reach it and the mom not know... So that means she failed right there, the gun wasn't in the front seat/center concole/etc.

Pure speculation on my part, but she could have stored it under the driver's seat, and it slid into the back floor board, and the child saw it, picked it up & started playing with it. Like I said, pure speculation on my part.

....then the kid was not secured in a safety seat, which opens another can of worms. This mother is stupid on a number of levels, and already having at least one child has missed her opportunity for the Darwin Award.
