Too bad the previous judge released him back on the streets days earlier:
Balogun is also facing an aggravated assault charge stemming from an incident at the same apartment complex as the shooting, police said. That incident happened four days before the shooting, according to investigators.

79 year old woman was brutally murdered in her home in Hedwg Village in Houston. Her car was later found abandoned. She apparently put up a fight against her attacker. She was found by her maid. Her house is on 3/4 of an acre. One home of the 4 homes on her street is appraised for 2 million dollars another for 1.5 million.

It can happen anywhere.

Former housekeepers son arrested.

Housekeeper had retired five years before. Her former boss was paying her a monthly stipend.

The son's motive was simply robbery.

Man kills a woman he didn't know. She just happened to drive up as he was shooting his girlfriend.

Homeowners shoot back at masked home invaders. One killed, one on the run. I presume if he is caught, he will be charged with murder.

This is Baytown not Houston, but close enough for me.

Despite some suspicions here, I'll still put this in the good guys win again.

A man was murdered Saturday about a mile from where I live at 9:30 pm. No details in the news story where I learned about it other than it happened near a Sears store.

Has anyone else heard or aware of the current situation for Houston Police patrols? I'm not sure where exactly my buddy read it(looked for the article and couldn't find it), but he said he found an article just the other day about the shortage of patrols. I know there has been a shortage of officers and detectives for the last couple of years, but I guess I didn't realize it had gotten that bad.

After he mentioned it I've been watching my area (HPD has jurisdiction over large parts of the area I live in that isn't Webster) and I haven't seen an HPD patrol car in the last month. Thinking back it's probably been longer than that since I've seen any on patrol in my area.

HPD is between 800 and 1500 officers short on any given day. They are hiring already certified peace officers from other agencies also.

If anybody wants to change agencies, or change careers, to start out on deep nights going from crazy call to crazy call to crazy call all night long with Tuesdays and Wednesdays off, now is your chance :).

We know about the 800-1500 short on any given day, what he was referencing was an ongoing shortage beyond that is stretching them so thin that only priority calls are being responded to in a timely manner, and even then depending on what part of the city it may still be a longer wait than Dominos. I guess I'll have to get him to link/point me to the article or blog that he was referencing - was just wondering if anyone else had heard the same.

Good point about shortage of officers.

Currently I have excellent police service in my neighborhood. I have overlapping Constable patrol areas so I pay both.

Last night the Ford SUV CO problem was on the news. The Houston Police Chief said officers would continue to drive the cars even though one officer got sick as there is no budget to do anything else.

A CO battery powered monitor is $10 on Amazon.

My property taxes go up 10% a year. The mayor wants to have an election to increase the tax rate as well.

All I hear about is how they are broke and have no money and the pension shortfall is going to bankrupt them. However, everyday I deal with them it's how can we make something take longer and be more complicated. The only people worse is anyone at the State.

They are saying Dallas's problem is worse.
