Antifa threatened to pour concrete on tracks.

Investigators are concerned the train hit something on its maiden voyage. Tracks are almost new.

I would have quickly said that concrete on the rails would have been reported quickly as the cause BUT, you would think the guns used in the LV shooting would have by now as well!
I just dont know anymore!

From this article
https://www.reuters.com/article/us-washington-train/speeding-train-derails-on-new-route-in-washington-state-killing-three-idUSKBN1EC239

This quote:
Geoff Patrick, a spokesman for Sound Transit, which owns the track, said it had recently been upgraded to handle passenger trains from its prior use for slow-moving freight trains.

It would be interesting to know at what speed that section of track was certified. I believe that both ISIS and Antifa are capable of and willing to carry out terrorist attacks in an attempt to achieve their goals. But I also have a pet phrase "never attribute to malice, that which is easily explained as incompetence." This was supposedly the inaugural run of this train on these tracks. Hopefully, there tests of trains like this on the tracks before passengers were loaded but since it was an upgrade of an existing track bed, maybe there was no additional testing.

I rode a lot of Amtrack trains when I lived in the Northeast. I have first hand experience with them and they never moved my "confidence" meter very far.

Does anyone besides me wonder why the biggest mass shooting in the nation’s history (Wounded Knee excepted) dropped completely out of major media’s news coverage within a week or so, when the Sandy Hook, Aurora, Columbine, and Pulse nightclub shooting stories (to name but a few) had such staying power? I have my own theory as to why, but that’s irrelevant. I just wondered if I’m not the only one who finds it peculiar.

The article you linked says*:

"Officials with the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) said late on Monday that a data recorder recovered from a rear locomotive showed the train was traveling 80 miles (130 km) per hour in a 30 mile-per-hour zone when it jumped the track at a curve leading up to the bridge."

*(I'm guessing the article was updated after you posted it)

Excellent question. I attribute it to a combination of secretive law enforcement and lazy journalism.

media fatigue. People get tired of reading the same thing over and over. if there is nothing to add the media is just repeating the same things. So people stop reading and miss even when there is something new to add (though I have not seen much in that regard). So, the media moves on because they are in it for the money and posting things noones reading does not meet that goal.

If they didn't over do it at the beginning it might last longer but everyone has to send out the same 3 stories 40 times over the first 2 weeks and then the readers minds move on. particularly when those stories are not even very different from the last time an event like this happened.

Will the 5th year of the Las Vegas Massacre, be remembered in the news, with headlines that read - Trump remembers 5th anniversary of Las Vegas Massacre by hosting the President of the NRA at the White House. As that was the headline this week about Sandy Hook.

If it was a 30 mile curve, and the train was going 80 that would be the cause of the derailment. I can't imagine train engineers are that bad now days.

is anyone else simply stunned that these people spent nearly a billion dollars to shave 15 minutes off of a commute?

The train was still only 1/3 full. ...Thankfully.

Its "Free Money" .
The Feds provide the funding to the local transit authority's. Every local government agency knows that Federal money is free money, and if you don't spend it you lose it.

There is a bus run 3 times a day between Galveston and Houston (50 Miles or so) the daily ridership was reported to average in the single digits. But thats OK it's "free Money" from Texas DOT.

Statist love puplic transportation and hate us owning our POV.

I is my understanding that speed limits are different than track certifications. The capability of a track to carry a certain types of trains at certain speeds is modified by factors like the number and types of crossing signals in certain areas. Since the section of track for this accident was re-purposed from freight, which tends to move more slowly and weigh more than passenger trains, I was curious about what the certification was. At one point in my career, I was a contractor for Conrail and remember some discussions about track certifications. Perhaps my memory is outdated in today's railroad management environment.

I don't think its media fatigue. What I think happened is that the shooter did not fit the MSM's narrative. The shooter could legally purchase the guns, no known red-flags, no criminal record, relatively wealthy, Caucasian, known in the gambling community at the casino property, no social media footprint to suggest he was going to shoot anyone, no known physical or mental health issues, etc. In other words, he did not fit the MSM's narrative.

Sort of where I was headed with that. I would add to it that the victim group was not on the Democrat Steno Pool’s (AKA “the media”) preferred victims list. They were also Caucasian, relatively wealthy, mostly straight, CW music lovin’, NASCAR fans, a good percentage of which probably voted for Trump. There was no Antifa or Islamic terrorist to caution the public against jumping to conclusions about. The list goes on and on. Both the shooter and his victims were not members of a protected class, so their deaths don’t matter to the MSM (AKA the DNC Media Dept).

So, to get coverage, you gotta be a commie, (that is, you must fit into the democrat demographic) like being a tranny, or/and especially engaged gay couples, illegal aliens, drag queens, profa, black lies matter, etc., before msm will cover your story. So sorry if I overlooked mentioning any other group of those who love living in the U.S. while simultaneously hating/trashing it.

Then of course, even if the story is about weirdos, they'll fill the story with so much pap it isn't worth reading and/or listening to...
