Sen Mike Jackson has been nominated as new Pres Pro Temp of Senate
Senate making important decision, appointing new pres pro temp - that person wld reside over choosing of new lt gov in event of vacancy...
Acts as Lt Gov in his absence, potentially as Gov ...
The Senate pro tem can also serve as governor if the governor and lieutenant governor are both out of state at the same time.

The position of president pro tem of the Texas Senate is based on seniority. They technically have a vote, but as far as I know the position is never contested (at least in recent decades).
