I've shot both a Service 9 and an SC 9. The SC has a bit more recoil and noticeably more muzzle flip. Not too much to control, but it doesn't shoot like the service IMO. My wife has shot both as well, and she didn't like the SC at all. A friend of ours just moved to the Service and loves it because she never could get consistent with the SC (it wasn't the gun's fault, it just wasn't the gun for her).

They shoot different enough that she really should try one out first. Of course if you can her find one for $300 she won't have any problem reselling it if she doesn't like it. That sounds like a really low price for an XD.

You might call the Shooting Gallery in FtW. They have a pretty good rental selection, but I don't know if they have any XDs.
