That Taurus is very inexpensive when you consider that you are also getting a $125 to $150 gun for free as part of the deal. Makes the price on the PT-111 right around $150 net. I got a similar deal a couple of years ago but it was a Taurus 1911.

Just for the heck of it, I tried to get the one free thing at HEB one time and the grocer looked at me as I was a mad man. I argued, you said the fourth one was free, so I counted 1,2,3, and here my good man is the 4th one. I want that one without cost, i.e., free... He just laughed at me, and me right back at him...

"At no marginal cost" is much longer than "Free"

In their defense the marketers usually include a "When you buy" before the "3 bars of soap for $1.00 - The fourth one is free." So its not entirely wrong. If you bought 3 you would still pay the full dollar not the $.75 whether you got the fourth bar or not.

As an accountant, yes I understand that there is no "free", but rather an offer to buy multiple items at a set cost. Anytime you are required to buy more than one thing to get a deal, the stated per item price is irrelevant. Rather, you should consider the fair market value of the combined goods/services compared to the total price being offered.

People tend to simplify. They say "good luck" to someone gambling at a game of poker (but not usually to someone gambling on stocks ironically), when it is more accurate to say "I hope that you experience variance which works out in your favor". And they also say "buy X and get Y free", instead of "buy X and Y for $100".

Since the PT-111 was on sale recently (last couple of weeks) for $199 I'd say the .22 was a $90 freebie. Since the lowest I've seen the HRR lately was about $129 the net savings would be about $30.
