For those of us who have installed, or are thinking of installing security cameras, this is something to keep in mind:
"They took the hard drive from my security cameras so I have no cameras and I was worried about 5 a.m. and picked up the kids," Johnson added. "I am in bed worried, what if they come back."

Was the hard drive in the garage? If so, that seems kind of counter productive.

I hope there is some follow up to this story.baldeagle wrote:Was the hard drive in the garage? If so, that seems kind of counter productive.
The story doesn't say that the BGs entered the house.
It also doesn't say how many guests were in the garage other than the one that the homeowner shot in the back.
I also wonder if the garage door was open and the BGs just walked in.

I was thinking I read or the video said the garage was partially open and they crawled under.

Yeah I'm kinda confused by how they had time to get kids to safety and the BGs hat time to remove a hard drive before a gun fight breaks out.
I know news outlets don't always get details correct so maybe it's just a matter of missing details in the report

Did you notice this one line from the article:
Who is they? The robbers? the police? If it was the robbers note to all - don't keep the surveillance system head unit or hard drives in an easily accessible place!"They took the hard drive from my security cameras so I have no cameras and I was worried about 5 a.m. and picked up the kids," Johnson added. "I am in bed worried, what if they come back."

Yeah didn't think about police taking them would make sense to try to ID more suspectsUnocat wrote:Did you notice this one line from the article:Who is they? The robbers? the police? From the context of the article I believe the police took the hard drive. I assume he will get it back eventually, but in the mean time his system is inop until he gets a new drive.
Now if the BGs took it, that's even worse, and points out it would make sense to put your hard drive/main system in some protected, or at least non-obvious place. Maybe even frequently upload a copy to one of the cloud storage services, which would be especially handy if your house burned or was otherwise destroyed.

Here's another story that is a little more clear than the first report.
There was a party in the garage when the BGs entered.
The home owner was inside the house and shot a rifle several times through the closed garage door.
He missed the BGs and hit one of his guests in the back.

Hmmm.... Looks like a nice place to live... nothing sketchy about it. Well kept lawns and houses. Doesn't look like a place where I would suspect this to stem from drug business.. Random?

Seabrook is generally a nice area. This map shows the crime rate to be low.RoyGBiv wrote:Hmmm.... Looks like a nice place to live... nothing sketchy about it. Well kept lawns and houses. Doesn't look like a place where I would suspect this to stem from drug business.. Random?

Of course crime can occur anywhere.

Re: HOMEOWNER FIGHTS BACK, TWO SUSPECTS ARRESTED IN SEABROOK
This happened not too far from where I live.
This isn't necessarily any "bad" neighborhoods in Seabrook, but this is definitely among the most affordable places to live in the Seabrook, Kemah, El Lago area. I am surprised that they had cameras. There are a lot of renters in this neighborhood. But I'd guess that if they invested in a security camera system they may be homeowners...
In this case, it sounds like the perps knew what they were doing. I doubt it was random. I wouldn't assume that the people living in the house were up to no good, but it seems like the intruders likely knew where they were going. I doubt they were just driving around looking for people to rob.
But still another reason for me to protect my home. And to train my wife to shoot.

HCAD lists a different owner. So I'd guess that this is a rental property.
