Retired Chicago cop who is now a marshal in Dallas was visiting friends in Chicago when someone attempted to steal his car while he was checking into a hotel. He dragged one of them out of the car and subdued him. Police eventually came up with three juveniles who are now in custody.

A follow-up: Subsequent to the event above, which occurred on a Friday, the three juveniles 14/15/17 involved were charged with various felonies. (Not only did they try to steal the cop's car, they were already using a stolen car).

By Sunday they were already out of jail and the 15 year old was arrested AGAIN, in yet another stolen car, with a gun.

Another tidbit:

Carjackings in Chicago were up 41% in 2017 (938) from 2016 (663). 2016 saw a nearly 50% increase over 2015 (339).

I am curious if this correlates with a new bail policy among Cook County judges whereby bail is now much easier to make than previously.
