Pretty good summary, although I believe I heard from someone who knows ,, that she also verbally warned once more after the warning shot ... she gave him every chance to back off.

That's what happens when adrenaline causes you to miss your first Center-of-Mass shot.
Your best option for personal security is a lifelong commitment to avoidance, deterrence, and de-escalation.
When those fail, aim for center mass.

 Maybe she fired it to make certain she didn't have a cold barrel because, unbeknownst to the felon, the seemingly harmless, elderly Fredericksburg woman was capable of putting a 9mm-sized hole right in the middle of the thug's unibrow. ;-)

My thoughts is he intended to kill them both. Good thing she had a weapon and knew how to use it. One less thug to worry about.

Maybe she thought he was a tourist wine drinker who was at the wrong door and thought her Fiancé was a burglar.

I am glad it worked out for her but yeah, I think a warning shot is a very bad idea. She is lucky that guy did not kill her fiance before she stopped him.

Warning shots should be made between the eyes. Followed by non-warning shots to the center of mass.
Gun control is like stopping drunk driving by making it harder for sober people to drive.
