RULE CHANGE: Rule 11 has been amended

#1

Post by Charles L. Cotton »

Increasing terrorist murders and threats against Americans have understandably generated numerous threads/posts. The risk of terrorist attacks in the U.S. is escalating dramatically and discussing these threats and how to prepare for them are legitimate topics on the Forum. The obvious difficulty is how to address these topics in such a way that they do not become purely an argument about religion.

I want to thank the Moderators for a very open and frank discussion of this issue. The Moderators have come to a consensus that we must allow discussion of this issue since terrorists pose a very real threat to all Americans, especially Texans considering the intelligence reports that ISIS is in Mexico and probably in Texas as well. We have agreed on an amendment to Rule 11 that deals with “religion” separately from the rest of the Rule, as set out below.

The clear intent and goal is to allow discussion of religion/theology only in relation to criminal acts or threats of violence committed in the name of religion. We are concerned about current threats and risks, not historical events carried out in the name of religion. For example, it will not be acceptable to compare current ISIS atrocities to the Mormons' massacre of a wagon train at Mountain Meadows in 1857, or the Crusades in the holy lands.

To those Members who routinely push the envelope --- don’t. Your posts will be summarily deleted.

Absolutely no discussions of immigration/border security, abortion, race matters, or any other hot-button political issues. (Gun-related political issues can be discussed in the Gun and/or Self-Defense Related Political Issues forum.)

Religion or theology may only be discussed in the context of threats or criminal acts committed in the name of a religion, and in thoughtful responses to those threats and acts.
