Palmetto State Armory CCI .22 LR HP 36 grain Mini-Mag. $319.99/5000 rounds, Free Shipping and no tax for Texans. That's 6.4¢ a round. About the cheapest I've see lately, especially considering no tax and free shipping.

ETA I should specify it's the best price I've seen on CCI MiniMag LR HP. There are other brands of .22 LR ammo online for as low as 4¢/rnd

Remember if the seller is out of state and doesn't collect sales tax, you're responsible for filing and paying Texas use tax on the purchase.

I remember when a box of 50 .22lr cost 47 cents and on sale low 40's and sometimes 39 cents or so. And back then all of it was "the good stuff".

We ran it for 33¢ bx/50 in the 60's and early 70's.

Grab a Gun Winchester Wildcat 40 gr .22 LR $1.99 bx/50 - $12.95 flat rate ammo shipping. I computed that's about 4.5¢ per round for 100 boxes (5000 rounds) with shipping and Texas sales tax.

Similar pricing here... Maybe a hair less per round after shipping.

Palmetto State Armory has some decent prices on Federal Ammuntion. There are several Federal rebate programs ongoing now as well, so some popular Vital Shok hunting calibers are as little a $8.99/BX 20 after rebate. The Premium Ammo has a deal to get a Buck 110 as a rebate. For any match shooters the .308 Match King in 168gr BTHP and 175 gr BTHP is $16.99/BX 20.

From a small town here but sure remember all the filling stations just about sold ammo, hardware stores and some grocery stores. All the 7-11 stores and the like also had it, I even remember several barber shops and 1 TV retailer in Dallas.

We had an all night Texaco station that was almost a sporting goods store back in the 60's. No guns that I remember, but any common ammo, licenses, fishing gear, frog gigs and crab nets, etc. Also, though we just called them the "little store" (now it's a called a convenience store) I could buy .22 shells for about 75¢ at our little store. You could take a chance on winning some money by buying a tube of salted Spanish peanuts if you felt lucky. I actually won a quarter in a package once. Kids could buy ammo and gamble at the same time. We seemed to turn out OK. BTW I forgot to mention PSA has Federal .22 LR Automatch for $13.99/325 rounds.
