LCP Recall

#1

Post by SCone »

Just got an email recalling my LCP. Seems that if you drop the gun with a cartridge in the chamber, it could fire. DUHHHH..........

Anyway, they claim they'll fix the concern and do some other updates PLUS give me a new magazine with the finger extension for my troubles.

Serial number effected is 370-XXXXX. If you have one that starts with 371, you're fine or if there is some type of diamond near the hammer???

Here's the link to check your LCP and to enroll in the recall...

:eek6 wow...not cool. Mine is in the affected batch and I have dropped my LCP right on the magazine from about 3 feet with a round in the chamber! I remember thinking "Thank God for that drop safety!" Ugh...this makes number 2 for Ruger with the same thing happening with the SR9s. :banghead:

:iagree: I wonder how long it will take to send it in and get it back? And I wonder if they are going to cover the cost?

They didn't say, but they did say they'd make up the parts and send shipping information when they're ready. So it sounds like the repair will be pretty quick.

In the mean time, they warn against carrying with a loaded chamber.

They will be covering the cost. They will ship a box and return label for the repairs.

mine too. Thank you for posting this. Guess i'll finally learn about shipping fire arms. Maybe i can take the box they send to academy and get them to do it. Will check with them on that.
Thank you for participating in the LCP™ recall. Your information has been received and is being processed.

The new parts are being built and we will retrofit LCP pistols on a first-come, first-served basis as soon as they are available.

When we are ready to retrofit your pistol, we will send you a shipping label and package with instructions so you can return your pistol to us FREE of charge.

Once we have received your LCP, we will install the new hammer mechanism, plus some other functional upgrades that we added since the LCP’s introduction, and return your LCP to you, all FREE of charge. When we do, we also will send you a FREE magazine with the new finger grip extension as a “thank you” for your patience and cooperation. We will make every effort to return your pistol within one week of receipt.

We want to remind gun users that, for maximum safety when carrying any pistol with a loaded magazine in place, the chamber should be empty, and the slide should be closed. Any gun may fire if dropped or struck.

Thank you,
Sturm, Ruger & Co., Inc.

Thanks for posting. Looks like mine is a "370" with no diamond. Oh well ... I'll take the magazine with new pinky extension.
