Retired LE

Married to the same woman for 33 years.

Three grown kids, 5 grandkids.

Spent four years in the Military, 23 months in Vietnam..

I now spend my days shooting and teaching grandkids to shoot.

I was one of the few, very few Chiefs of Police who were infavor of the CHL back in the 80s. Went to Austin and told a few committees at the Capital why it was a good idea. I talked with Ma Richards in August before the elections in November and told her that she would be defeated by George Bush for Governor, because of her pocket veto of the CHL Bill. She stated that her "advisors" had told her that the majority of citizens in Texas did not want blood in the streets. She sent me a nice letter afterwards saying that she should not have listened to her advisors about Guns and Texans.

During these visits to Austin, I talked with my Senator, Teel Bivins. He stated that he was against allowing citizens in Texas to carry .45 Mags under the front seats of their cars, blood would run in the streets. After mailouts by the TSRA and NRA, he had received several hundred calls and letters in favor of it and only one against it, from the Panhandle's Big City Chief. Soon Senator Bivins was not only in favor of CHL Legislation, but a Co-Sponsor. It was an intresting time.

Hello and thanks for carrying the torch back then. I worked it hard with Alice Tripp and Tara Riley this last time when it finally came to pass. CHL is a darned good thing. Before I left police work, the entire SWAT team belonged to NRA and most to TSRA.

Best.

Want my children to learn about guns from a responsible source - ME!!!
I too have a young child of the very hyper age of 3. Mines a son. I can't wait until he is ready to start shooting. I am already working with him on the four rules and keeping his finger off the trigger of his water guns. :D

Just joined also. I've frequented glocktalk, packing.org and THR for awhile, but they are blocked at my place of employment. Nice to see that this site is not blocked, as there seem to be some mature people on the board that can give meaningful input.

53, married with children including 6 y/o triplet boys :?, retired military & (currently) Mr. Mom, moved to TX in late '02 & got CHL in '04. Have numerous carry guns, but prefer either Bersa's Ultra Compact 9 or 45 and a CZ40P. Have Houston Holster for the Bersa's, Uncle Mikes for the CZ and a "camera case" that can be carried at the waist or with a strap when I really want to go concealed were normal holster carry may cause a problem (like the beach).
