M&P O.E. Sight Paint

Post by bigmoney »

So I took my dad shooting with me this afternoon, he's been wanting to try out my new m&p9c. And this was only the second time I've taken it out since getting it. We both had 100 rounds each, and somewhere near 3/4 of the way through my line of sight went fuzzy and I realized something was off. Sure enough the white in the front sight was gone. My glocks never did that, so I haven't had this problem, so, I am assuming it's just white paint that broke up and fell out (prematurely in my eyes). I'm still saving for some night sights, but in the meantime, is there a certain type of paint that should be used to fill the void or will anything work? Just can't believe that ANYTHING (paint or not) would have given me problems after only just over 200 rounds down tube. Thanks in advance.

Testor's model paint from Hobby Lobby or Michael's or even Wal Mart?

Try a different color even - lime green, safety orange?

Apply with a Q Tip but tear off most of the cotton down to the cardboard nub - should fit into the little indent on the sight. Clean area first with rubbing alcohol and let dry.

I use the sharp end of a toothpick and just a little paint at a time into the indentation until it is full.

I actually had something similar happen with my M&P 45, except that it came with factory installed Trijicon night sights. Out of the box, the white on the front site was nice and bright in daylight. But at some point during the very first range session, a lot of the white stuff surrounding the tritium lamp on the front sight vanished to the sight. I assume that it got knocked off by recoil. The tritium lamp is still nice and bright, and clearly visible in the dark, but with a lot of the white stuff around it missing, the front sight is somewhat harder to pick up in the daylight.

Of course, my eyesight is bad enough now that I can't see it well enough to try and add some white paint around the lamp. I'm afraid I'd just paint over the lamp.

Some white correction fluid (white out) will work. Clean the sight post fully with alcohol to assure it will stay on. If you want a poor man's set of night sights take a look at THESE. I use them and find them to work just as well as the higher priced sights the only down side they have to be charged before use. They are a good way to get luminous sights at a low price.

Have a look at this paint. It is supposed to be very good for night sights.

Something is up with their sights. Mine did the exact same thing and I've read of it many times.

+1 on testors with a toothpick. Been fine since.

Thanks Fellers. Wasn't really sure if there was any certain paint that would work best, but I'll give a bright Testers a go. It'll do till I can get some good night sights. Thought about going ahead and ordering some, but I'm sticking with my original plan of taking a tactical/self defense pistol class instead. Night sights will be on the list after that, unless I give in at the gun show next weekend.

I keep a little bottle of White Out and some toothpicks in my gunbag.

Happened to my M&P 45c too. It's a common occurrence for them. I was told to use appliance touch up enamel.

I need to reapply mine as the soot has fouled my repaint (yes, I let it dry!).
