G26ster,

Thanks and that weight isn't bad, but I just found Bushnell makes one called "The First Strike" and it comes in a 2.4 oz costing (before tax) about $104.00. Not bad.

From what I've discovered the pistols you can buy already mounted with reflex sights weigh in around 2.1 - 2.4 oz range, but some are hideously costly like the Trigicons and Leupold Delta Point.

The reviews on "The First Strike" are mixed..., but if I buy it at Walmart they have an easy return policy if I get a lemon...

I have yet to make a choice as I'm still obsessively researching...

I just discovered a German reflex sight mfg. by Doctor weighing in at just over 3/4 of an oz.

I couldn't find the cost.

It's probably staggering...

Abraham wrote:Something I've just considered: Weight of the reflex sight.

Currently, the one I mentioned mounted on my S&W M&P 15-22 weighs 6.4 oz. which on the rifle isn't noticable, but on a pistol...?

Also, I don't know if the new rail to accommodate it on my Buckmark is more or less in weight than the original rear sight.

So, any of you know the weight of the reflex sights on your .22 cal pistols?

Is the weight of the reflex sight much of a bother or not?

Thanks!
The Browning Reflex sight weighs 6.6oz. Their website states that the aluminum rail weighs over 6 oz, but I find it hard to believe. I weighed my wife's pistol which is the same as mine and it's 2lb. 2oz. With the sight and base mine weighs a tad over 2lb. 8oz. The second photo has the circle and crosshair reticle but is out of focus. The third picture shows the dot reticle (in focus) and packaging for the sight (Browning 1290230) and base (Browning 12328). Ignore all the red prism looking images in the sight I think it's caused by the camera's flash.

The Browning sight looks like a duplicate of the Truglo. Probably made by the same Chinese company. Don't know about the Browning, but the Truglo is lighter and has both red and green reticle choices.

Bitter Clinger,

Thanks for the information on the Vortex Venom.

Wow, I just finished a youtube video review.

I like almost everything about it, and the weight is perfect at 1.1 oz.

The only downside I see is it only comes in red.

Green is my preference for daytime use.

However, maybe the red dot will show up well even in daylight - I'm still researching that.

Thanks again.

I finally got around to trying out my Browning Buckmark w/ the Browning Buckmark Red Dot sight and mount. Just had to drive 270 miles to do it. We made a trip for grandparents' day for our oldest daughter's three children. There are several shooting ranges near by so I brought the pistol with me and made a trip to Target Time range in Burleson. The only targets available were silhouette so I picked green full size. I started out at 7 yards and t=it was about 10" low and a little left. Worked it up until it was good to go and went to 10 yards. I have to say I am pleased with the sight and how much better I can see the target. I shot at various distances all the was to the back stop which is 25 yards. At 30 feet I shot the scoring box in the upper left corner and with CCI Minimags put them all in the green. I shot some Win Super X HP I had in my truck and the Browning is not particularly fond of them. I shot the scoring box with the Winchester ammo and they were all over the place. I also shot one handed offhand at 15 yards just for practice and did pretty good. I was going to try left handed but I ran out of ammunition. Though it's not practical I would love to have red dots on all my pistols. The sight did what it's supposed to do and for way less than a C note for the sight and mount I can't complain. I shot at #2 illumination with the plain dot.

Puma Guy,

Excellent!

I splurged and bought the Vortex Venom from Optics Planet for $206.54 total with no cost shipping. They were on sale for 10% off.

It should come in today.

Good deal. Looking forward to your report. Does it come with a mount?

puma guy,

Sadly, it didn't come in today, but I have high hopes for tomorrow.

Yes, it comes with a mount.

I'm like a little kid waiting to open my presents at Christmas...

Took my Buckmark to PSC today to put a few rounds through it. I spent most of my time helping my wife with her new Glock 42 and S&W M&P 15-22, but shot a couple of targets with my Browning. Mostly off hand, but I decided to use my shooting bag to rest the butt of the pistol. I have to say I was impressed even if it was at 12 yards. 10 shots CCI Mini Mag 36gr LR HP. I'm a believer and my eyes approve.
