Not the best instructor

Post by Texsquatch »

This guy's credentials need to be reviewed or the range should remove him before things get out control. I kind of feel guilty for laughing at him, but jokes aside, I hate the example he's setting for these guys.

Geez. Now I'll have nightmares, but on the other hand, I've promised myself as soon as I stop recognizing there's nothing special about me, that gun safety is always a matter of good decisions right now, and now, and now, and on forever without cessation, then I will give up guns.

My wife had a fail to fire in a little Taurus revolver. I never fire the gun because, frankly, it's icky. Having forgotten how light the single action was I managed to set it off the instant my finger touched the trigger. Of course, the muzzle was pointed at the target. Of course, I didn't put my finger on the trigger until it was OK for it to discharge - but it was still a wake-up. Everybody was OK because of safe standard procedures.

I was at the firing line, nobody was ahead of the muzzle. I still felt stupid.

And of course a 44mag is the best choice to train a novice. This guy is obviously trying to impress his prowess on these rookies and his ego for the best of him.

Kudos to the student who posted the video, hopefully sharing the link with all that instructor's colleagues. :evil2:

Student: Did you do that on purpose?
Instructor: Yeah.

He couldve/shouldve manned up and admit his mistake. THAT, was a true lesson how not to safely handle a firearm. He couldve said see? It can even happen to instructors when they get complacent. Finger off the trigger until ready to shoot.
Just some guy's opinion.

Looks like he also wasn't quite familiar with gun balance as the front was tad heavier...short trigger pull in sa mode, and boom...

So that's where all of those holes in the ceiling at the gun range come from... the range "safety" staff.

This is actually a video from Dec 2010, but just went viral. Apparently happened in Las Vegas. here's the original post on YouTube

I agree that he is not handling the pistol properly, including his first turn with the handgun where the observer/student ducks out of the way. Then the ND is strike two. No need for a third strike.

However, the video ends right after he answers 'Yeah', then goes and lays the gun down on the bench. Would have liked to have seen if he continues to ignore it, or actually states he screwed up and explains it.

My guess due to his poor handling techniques is he doesn't own up to the mistake(s), even though the guys watching definitely know it was.

Not the best instructor but sad to say not the worst.
This is my opinion. There are many like it, but this one is mine.

Video is now "private" and I can't view it. What did I miss?
