It seems that John Boyert, the namesake of the eponymous company has chosen to leave (or was asked to leave - I don't know). I do know some folks at the Westheimer store, so I'll probably inquire to see what happened.
I've had MANY good experiences at their range, and everyone there, from the leadership on down has been very welcoming to my daughters' shooting there since she was 4 years old. Whatever the new leadership has in store, I do hope they maintain some of the same company culture that we, the customers, have enjoyed.
I don't have a pony in this race - I'd met John only once or twice, and thought he was very personable, but I recognize that the persona shown to the paying customer may be different than that shown to the staff and/or investors. Whether that was true in this instance or not is way beyond my speculative ability.
I do not know the name Paul Cobb, but I hope to meet him someday as the new 'boss' at my favorite indoor range. I appreciate that he is a veteran and a former police chief. I know that a lot of senior level police folks (e.g. HPD's Chief) are not necessarily 'gun folk' like the rest of us, and are not really what I'd call a shining example of a 2nd Amendment supporter. I won't make any presuppositions about Mr. Cobb, however, and I hope he's as much a gun lover as are many of us on here.

To All of Our Members and Guests:
We are delighted to share with each of you that we are searching for a new name to reflect and reinforce positive changes in our Company. The sole source of capital and loans to our Company from the first day of business in 2014 was Charles Burnett III. John Boyert’s interest based on managing the business has been purchased, and he is now pursuing other endeavors.
Based on a relationship, which spanned nearly 30 years of personal and business dealings, Mr. Burnett appointed Paul Cobb as our new President. Mr. Cobb is a decorated Veteran and former Police Chief of Pasadena, Texas – a man with the training, experience and leadership skills to help guide us forward.
We have been listening to our guests’ and members’ comments over the last several years that the name “Boyert Shooting Center” fails to actively enhance our brand. In light of our commitment to training and the safe enjoyment of firearms, far beyond just selling them as commodities, we are asking you to join us in suggesting a new name that better reflects our vision. We are open to all suggestions, but would prefer to retain the lion as part of our logo.
Please assist us in this process by submitting alternative names and any related logos or branding designs. We want this new name to better emphasize firearm training. We will be developing state of the art firearm programs that will enhance you & your family's shooting experience, improve your marksmanship, and more fully embody the importance of firearm knowledge and safety.
WE NEED YOUR HELP in finding a name that reflects that business philosophy. If the name you send is chosen, you will be awarded a 5-YEAR FREE MEMBERSHIP! Please submit your ideas by this Sunday, May 28th.
We look forward to seeing them.
