NRA Doesn't Allow 1911's at New Classes

Recently the NRA announced a series of new classes called Carry Guard. Apparently they have decided that 1911's won't be allowed as a "primary weapon" for the classes, but will be as a back up.
Makes no sense to me, but then, it's the NRA.

That's odd, not sure what the reason would be unless, there is a minimum number of rounds that need to be fired before performing a reload.

Also the picture of James Jarrett, doesn't give him props as having good trigger discipline. JMHO

I am not interested in any "training" that prohibits 1911s. A class that prohibits any proven combat firearm is a non-starter in my book.

And the training is $850 for a 3 day course, plus the cost of buying a new pistol if you only have 1911's!

Fidgeting with the manual safety on the 1911 is what keeps you from getting your trigger finger in position quickly enough!! As shown in the slide above. This is why Glocks are superior! </sarcasm>

(As a Glock carrier, I am still curious why they would put 1911's on the back burner.)

You can eliminate that theory by asking if they allow 1911s in other calibers like 9mm.

Torn in a grenade accident, the hand was rebuilt with bone from a rib and tissue from his backside. Jarrett says he gave surgeons a pistol as a mold so his grip and trigger finger would be saved.

I'll give him a pass for shooting with a rebuilt hand. But, NRA should have selected another picture to illustrate the draw for PR purposes.

I'm trying to withold judgement until I actually take the instructor's course for this program. It's proving to be difficult.

I guess I'll have to use my Kel-Tec P3AT as my "primary" and my full size 1911 as my "backup".

Were the rules for these classes developed by the same folks who did the last IDPA rules update?

As with any new design, there are uncertainties that may reveal themselves over time.

I imagine once the 1911 has been in circulation long enough to prove its merit, the NRA will be happy with them.

Personally, I think the 1911 design has a lot of promise, even if it isn't a tried-and-true striker gun.
